Last week marked a special milestone as we celebrated Maggie's remarkable 25-year anniversary at WTC as a Mechanical Design Engineer. Maggie offers a glimpse into her journey, the challenges she's overcome, and her plans for celebrating this significant milestone: “After 25 remarkable years with WTC, my journey in engineering has been a testament to family influence and the profound respect for STEM careers. Amidst many standout moments, was the creation of a complex flexible spare transformer in 2001, a challenge met with innovative solutions and unwavering determination to achieve what was deemed the impossible. To aspiring female engineers, I emphasise embracing confidence, hard work, and a steadfast focus on their goals. As I reflect on this milestone, I'm filled with pride and gratitude together with my esteemed colleagues and the Wilson family. I will be celebrating with loved ones and treating myself to a well-deserved reward to mark this significant achievement. Here's to the next chapter of innovation and growth.” We congratulate Maggie on her 25-year tenure and continued contribution to WTC’s value proposition and delivering specialised transformer solutions. #TheTransformerPeople #BuiltSmartForLife

Have you ever wondered how we build our transformers and what goes into their construction? Take a behind-the-scenes look into some of the processes of manufacturing of one of the biggest transformers made in Australia. This 350 MVA 330/33/33kV ONAN/ODAF transformer is the last of three units we have built for the Waratah super battery energy project - the largest committed battery project in the southern hemisphere. Given their size, every aspect of the transformers was meticulously engineered, taking into account various electrical, mechanical, thermal, environmental, and logistics factors.

We have recently welcomed a team from Equis Australia, Asia Pacific’s leading infrastructure developer, to our power transformer factory in Melbourne for a tour. During the factory visit we showed our world-class manufacturing facilities and talked about how we engineer and manufacture our products from start to finish. It was great to welcome such a fantastic team of specialists who are passionate about developing world-class energy assets and helping Australia in the energy transition.

In the late hours of Saturday evening, the last of the three 350 MVA 330/33/33kV power transformers started its epic journey out of Melbourne to its final destination in NSW in a complex 9-day operation. With a transport mass of 170 tonnes and being carried by a 477-tonne superload, the transformer makes for an unforgettable sight. Transporting a transformer of such size is quite challenging. It requires thorough planning and preparation before the move, including obtaining special permits, planning a route for transportation, considering critical existing infrastructure for the passage of the oversize vehicle, and raising awareness among road users. We would like to thank all involved in the transportation of this transformer. Special thank you to the Overdimensional Lift and Shift team who has done a fantastic job in the delivery of the transformers to its final destination - the Waratah Super Battery at the site of the former Munmorah coal-fired power station. WTC was engaged by Akaysha Energy and Consolidated Power Projects Australia Pty Ltd to deliver 3 x 350MVA and 145 x 7.3MVA transformers for the Waratah super battery energy project. Our transformers will play an essential role in ensuring the correct voltage levels between different parts of the system and the electrical grid and will be used to charge and discharge energy to/from the battery.
