  • Djilba brings a mix of wet and dry conditions, wildflowers, and new life. We've put together some activities that families and teams can do this Djilba season from August through to September: 🌳Less than a 2-hour drive from Perth, take a scenic hike through Dwellingup State Forest to see blooming wildflowers and impressively tall Jarrah trees, a nice escape from the city. 🧘Connect to country with Yoga at the WA Museum on Sunday 8 September. The practice and soundscapes will align with the Djilba season, reflecting what's occurring in nature. 🐦 Head down to Kings Park and Botanic Garden in the morning to see some of our woodland birds nesting amongst the Banksia. 🌞Book a cultural tour in the South West and be immersed in the world’s oldest living culture with an authentic, personal experience of Indigenous culture. • New laws are now in place to protect WA retail workers from repeat shoplifters and violent attackers. 🔒 Individuals who attack retail staff on duty can face up to 7 years in prison, or 3 years and a $36,000 fine. If the offender is armed or with others, the penalty can rise to 10 years' imprisonment. A recent survey by the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees' Association (SDA) revealed a 56% increase in reports of physical violence against retail workers compared to two years ago. These higher penalties aim to deter those who seek to intimidate, harm, or exploit retail workers. You can report acts of violence to the WA Police on 131 444 or at your local police station.

New WA rent reforms have come into effect as of 29 July 2024. 🏠 Rent increases will only be allowed once every 12 months. 🏠 In most cases pets will be allowed 🏠 Minor modifications will be allowed in most cases 🏠 The Commissioner for Consumer Protection will make decisions about pets and minor modifications Tenants need permission from their landlord to keep a pet, and landlords can set reasonable conditions. Pets are generally allowed unless laws or valid reasons prevent them. Minor modifications like hanging pictures, adding flyscreens, or installing a water-saving shower head will also be allowed in most cases but tenants must get the landlord's permission. • The Australian Department of Home Affairs have provided an important update regarding Australia's National Terrorism threat which has been raised to PROBABLE. Please see more information in the post below or visit https://lnkd.in/enfwe9X

Australia’s National Terrorism Threat Level has been raised to PROBABLE. More Australians are being radicalised, and radicalised quickly. They are embracing a more diverse range of extreme ideologies. Anti-authority beliefs are growing; trust in institutions is eroding; provocative and inflammatory behaviours are being normalised. While you should be more vigilant, you should also have confidence to go about your life – for most of us the change in threat level will have no practical impact. Australia’s law enforcement and security agencies are among the best in the world and continue to do everything within their powers to keep the community safe. You can continue to provide valuable information to assist security and law enforcement agencies identify potential threats and prevent them from developing. If it doesn’t add up, speak up, by calling the National Security Hotline on 1800 123 400. For more information on the threat level, visit https://lnkd.in/enfwe9X

  • Coercive control is not one behaviour or incident, but a pattern of controlling behaviour. It’s family and domestic violence, and it can cause serious harm, so it’s important to know the signs. Many think of family and domestic violence only in terms of physical or sexual harm, but it's crucial to also recognize coercive control. Thanks to survivor advocates and researchers, awareness of coercive control in family and intimate partner relationships has grown in recent years.
