An exciting milestone has been reached with Urbis securing for our client, Sungard Property Group a planning approval for a Build to Rent twin tower development in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.  The Winn Street BTR project is located on a prominent site with an 18-storey tower fronting McLachlan Street and a 27-storey tower fronting Ann Street.     Designed by architects Fraser & Partners, the project will deliver 400 new residential apartments with full amenities and multipurpose spaces. A level one podium will include lifestyle and leisure facilities and an activated ground floor will host dining and retail experiences. Securing the DA approval, Urbis is also proud to be the landscape architect designing the roof top gardens with outdoor lounging areas and private dining spaces. The activated ground floor incorporates generous landscaping which continues up the podium along the perimeter of each level, creating a cascading effect of draping greenery. While Build to Rent has both challenges and opportunities, it is contributing to the current state of housing supply. To take a deeper diver into Australia’s BTR market, download Urbis’ insights piece produced by our national BTR team. https://lnkd.in/gtZeHznm This new project is urban regeneration at its best and is an exciting BTR project that will help shape Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley. Urbis is so proud to work closely with the project team on planning and landscape architecture to achieve this city shaping project for Brisbane.  Read more in the BTR News https://lnkd.in/g6VT2k6D   Sungard Property Group, Brisbane City Council, Fraser & Partners Penny Douglas, Rachael Greene, Faith Duffy, Georgia Neal, Matthew Franzmann

Highlighting the pressing demand for age-friendly accommodation in Australia, Urbis, in partnership with the Retirement Living Council Australia, has produced the national planning report card, 'Retirement Ready'. This report uncovers concerning delays in the approval process for retirement village developments, a situation that demands immediate attention given our swiftly ageing population and constrained housing supply. As reported in the Herald Sun, Inside Local Government and more, two-thirds of applications take over a year to be assessed, a delay that's simply unacceptable in the face of our rapidly ageing population and tight housing supply. Urbis Associate Director, Kylie Newcombe, emphasised the crucial role of retirement living in enabling older residents to remain integral parts of their communities. She states, "As our ageing population continues to grow, it's more important than ever that retirement living is addressed in strategic plans and policies by state and local governments." The report card offers practical recommendations to make planning systems 'retirement ready'. It's time to accelerate the pace of change and ensure our cities and communities are prepared for the future.  Herald Sun coverage: https://lnkd.in/gbVVkRUv  Inside Local Government coverage: https://lnkd.in/gi6ziMQ2  #RetirementLiving #AgeFriendlyCommunities #Planning #ReportCard Property Council of Australia

Exciting news for the next phase of the evolution of Docklands – one of Australia’s largest urban renewal projects.    Urbis assisted joint proponents Development Victoria and the AFL - Australian Football League in securing a pivotal Planning Scheme Amendment which unlocks the redevelopment opportunity of 140-160 Harbour Esplanade, Docklands.    Nestled in the heart of Docklands, this approval sets the framework to deliver a world-class waterfront development and civic spine. The amendment requires future detailed design plans to be submitted and assessed for three new towers atop a shared podium and expanded stadium concourse. Future development will include enhanced stadium and precinct connectivity, a variety of exciting new public open space areas and the potential to include a vibrant mix of residential, commercial, and entertainment spaces.    Congratulations to the joint proponents, Grimshaw Architects and the dedicated consultant team in securing this approval. Australia's transport sector is on track to become the largest carbon emitter by 2030 🚗. With 80% of our population residing in cities 🏙️, we have a significant opportunity to reshape our transport system towards a more sustainable future.    The Australian Government's Net Zero Plan, including the Transport and Infrastructure Net Zero Consultation Roadmap, provides the guidance and direction we need. It's a call to action for industry, stakeholders, and interested parties to help shape the potential pathways for decarbonisation. ⚡🔋    The Government called on industry to provide their response to the Roadmap and we at Urbis are pleased to have submitted a response. Our insights and recommendations aim to enhance the Roadmap, addressing the challenges up to 2030 and beyond.     The Transport and Infrastructure sector plan is a crucial step in building confidence and furthering investment in the energy and systems infrastructure required to achieve net zero transportation in Australia. To stay competitive globally, Australia must embrace and accelerate transport decarbonisation. 🌿🌏    To read more, visit: https://lnkd.in/gP8HNHDK   #Decarbonisation #NetZero #Transport #Infrastructure #Sustainability

Today is Equal Pay Day, a significant day that raises awareness of the gender pay gap. The Theme "it doesn't add up", reflects the 50 extra days women must work to earn the same, on average, as men did last year. Equal pay is the concept of women and men being paid the same for performing the same role or different work of equal or comparable value. There is great importance in ensuring everyone receives fair compensation for their contributions regardless of gender, race, or other factors. The gender pay gap is not just a women's issue, but a societal one. It affects our families, our communities, and our economy. It's a challenge that requires collective action and commitment from all of us - businesses, governments, and individuals alike. At Urbis, we are proud of the steps we've taken towards pay equity, but we know there's more work to be done. We continue to review our policies, practices, and procedures to ensure they promote fairness and equality. On this Equal Pay Day, let's all pledge to do our part in closing the gender pay gap. Because when we value everyone's contributions equally, we create stronger, more resilient, and more prosperous communities. #EqualPayDay #GenderPayGap #Equality #Inclusivity #Urbis
