About us

The UNSW Engineering Society (EngSoc) is the premier engineering society and is officially endorsed by Arc (UNSW’s umbrella student organisation) as well as the UNSW Faculty of Engineering. As the only constituent engineering society, our member base consists of all students studying within the nine schools of the UNSW Faculty of Engineering. We believe in developing capable engineering graduates who are well rounded, with strong extracurricular involvement and industry knowledge. The society’s Careers, Programs, and Socials portfolios work collectively to further this goal by: - bridging the gap between students and industry, - supporting the career and professional development of students, and - facilitating a social environment for all students.

  • Jane Street is opening up their INSIGHT Program once again for 2025! This January, Jane Street is excited to host our annual INSIGHT program in Hong Kong! We’re inviting students who identify as women, transgender, and gender expansive in their second year of university to spend three days in our office learning more about what we do and how we do it through a set of trading and programming classes and activities. Attendees will receive an in-depth look into the ways we use math and computer science every day and insight into the different roles that exist within our firm. Selected students will arrive in Hong Kong on the evening of January 7th and will depart on January 12th 2025. Jane Street will cover all travel to and from Hong Kong, including meals, housing, and a variety of social events. INSIGHT has three different program tracks students can apply for: Trading — students will learn about mathematical and financial topics such as probability, market structure, and arbitrage through a combination of short lectures, group games, and mock trading sessions. Software engineering — students will learn OCaml, the libraries and tools we use in our daily work, and how to put them to use by building a computer game. Participants will also learn the fundamentals of electronic trading systems and write a program that trades on a simulated stock exchange. Strategy and product — attendees will get a glimpse into the work that goes on in our Strategy and Product Internship and Rotational Development Programme. Case studies and problem-solving exercises will introduce participants to how we optimize funding and financing, set up new trading flows, respond to regulatory inquiries, and generally manage the complex mechanics that underlie Jane Street’s business. Apply here to be considered for a spot: https://lnkd.in/gaRS3irY The deadline to apply for this event is Sunday, 3 November 2024 at 11:59 pm HKT. You will be notified of your application status within two weeks after the deadline.
