With 100% of drivers recruited for our component of the rail replacement contract with Transport for NSW, Minister for Transport Jo Haylen recently visited the Leichhardt depot to meet some of them 🚌 Transit Systems NSW Managing Director Daniela Fontana GAICD said with extensive network planning and transition experience, Transit Systems secured the contract to deliver the majority of rail replacement bus services for South West Link, during the upcoming final Metro conversion of the T3 Bankstown Line. “We are pleased to see our investment into our recruitment efforts achieve the outcomes required, and set the benchmark for the industry. “We’re proud to work alongside our government partners to continue investing in the development of people, providing advanced skills training and development, while attracting new people to the industry,” she said. Ms Fontana extended her thanks to the entire Transit Systems’ team for helping to surpass recruitment targets. “Demand for public transport will continue to rise, and we will continue to deliver the next generation of drivers - trained up and ready to roll,” she said. The Transit Systems’ recruitment campaign attracted a strong stream of applicants, with dozens of new drivers completing training each week including new driver Allison Smith. “The training from Transit Systems has been great, it is so supportive. I am really enjoying connecting with passengers and everyone is so respectful,” said Ms Smith. #bus #transport #recruitment #publictransport #drivers https://lnkd.in/g3BpHfy4

This week we were advocating at Parliament House alongside our parliament representatives, addressing the critical issues of funding cuts for training in transport. Public transport keeps cities moving - decongesting the roads and decarbonising our environments. Buses take people from A to B but they also connect people from A to B to get to C (or even D), by leading directly into trunk services. Customers can take a bus to get to their local shop, or connect to the train station and go to work, or head beyond to the airport. Transport services are vital in helping communities socially connect for medical, hospitality, tourism or retail engagement, boosting social outcomes and the economy by bringing people and places together. Tanya Smith (she/her) MBA (HRM), Executive General Manager People, Safety and Communications said to ensure we can provide effective public transport, we need a trained and reliable workforce. “In our industry, this includes Certificate III Driver Operations, and strong recruitment of experienced drivers. Labour supply is also impacted through immigration agreements – so more than funding, these are critical conversations that serve as the backbone to our social framework, which equitably enables people to get to where they want to go, when they need to be there. “Our drivers are front liners who make a difference in the community every single day, and the investment into their training sets a benchmark for road safety,” she said. Thanks Anthony (Tony) Hopkins Varenya Mohan-Ram Jay Zmijewski Matthew Rocks Martin Hall FCMILT Roz Chivers Ian MacDonald Sam Rae MP Richard Marles Clare O'Neil for your time, as we discussed the complexities, opportunities and hopes for the transport industry moving forward, as we continue to deliver one of the fastest decarbonisation strategies available to cities. #inclusion #accessibility #publictransport #bus #planning #recruitment #training #industry #skills #driver #decarbonisation Michael McGee Mark Peters Mel Pecen John Storms Andrew Jenkinson David Haoust Brian Thompson Daniela Fontana GAICD Len Kidd Richard Lizon

“The COVID pandemic reminded us that as a sector, we can make rapid, bold changes to the transport system, so we must be innovative to deliver solutions that reduce our reliance on emission producing technology and infrastructure and provide safe, frequent and efficient mobility services,” said Public Transport Association Australia New Zealand Chair, Sally Stannard. It’s a strategy we proudly support, with Clint Feuerherdt, Kelsian Group Limited MD and GCEO, in Canberra this week at the National Decarbonising Transport Summit, actively contributing our global sustainability experience to the Federal Government Transport and Infrastructure Net Zero Consultation Roadmap. 🔗 Read more from industry leaders thanks to Infrastructure Magazine https://bit.ly/3xGBnSP #roadmap #transport #sustainability #renewables #energy #zeroemission #innovation

Transit Systems reposted this
As the largest operator of Zero-Emission Buses in Australia, our MD and GCEO, Clint Feuerherdt, was invited to join the nation’s top transport decision-makers at the National Decarbonising Transport Summit in Canberra last week. Jointly hosted by the Public Transport Association Australia New Zealand (PTAANZ), Australasian Railway Association (ARA) and Roads Australia (RA) with support from Arup, this half-day Summit focused on accelerating Australia's transport decarbonisation journey and fostering industry collaboration. “The transport sector has a real opportunity to change the landscape of Australia’s sustainable development, and this summit has served as a clear contributor to removing barriers and taking collective tangible steps to make this happen,” said Mr. Feuerherdt. “I welcome the collaboration between Government and industry to move us all closer to net-zero.” The outcomes of the Summit will inform the Transport and Infrastructure Net Zero Consultation Roadmap. #NetZero #DecarbonisingTransport #IndustryCollaboration

New research from transport engineers at the University of Melbourne sheds light on the causes, consequences and control strategies surrounding one of public transport's most intractable and annoying features: bus bunching.🚌🚌🚌 This pervasive problem, where buses on the same route travel together rather than maintaining even spacing, causes delays, inefficiencies, and passenger dissatisfaction. As Australia's leading bus operator, we empathise with the frustration that bus bunching can cause our customers. That's why we've pioneered specialised headway management software on vehicles. This technology assists drivers and controllers in maintaining optimal service intervals between buses, thereby enhancing reliability for our customers and creating a truly convenient turn-up-and-go service. We're committed to making public transport a more reliable and appealing choice for everyone. 🔗 Read the full article to learn more: https://bit.ly/3Rn8npI Richard Lizon John Storms Andrew Jenkinson Brian Thompson Daniela Fontana GAICD David Haoust Len Kidd #PublicTransport #SustainableMobility #UrbanTransport #BusBunching #ResearchInnovation #UniversityOfMelbourne #HeadwayManagement #TurnUpAndGo

Even kids get the drill. Always be careful when crossing around public transport. Did you know, according to Department of Transport and Planning, every week, 410,000 people walk behind stationary trams, 244,000 walk around the back of buses to cross roads, and 226,000 cross without checking for trains at level crossings? Stay safe, and always remember to look both ways. Public Transport Victoria John Storms Omar Najmeddine
