Did you know The Torch facilitates artwork licensing for our artists? This generates crucial revenue for them. Explore recent projects featuring Torch artists: https://lnkd.in/gnZUZrvK   Yorta Yorta/Bunurong artist S. Baker's 'Two Brothers' was adapted for the Reconciliation Action Plan for Boston Consulting Group (BCG) with this stunning result. What do you think? "The two emus are me and my younger brother. The two boomerangs are what we hunt with. The gum tree leaves and waterholes are where we camp under the gum trees. All the dots are places we've been and where we are going in life, to reconnect with all our loved ones, family, and friends."

Kent Morris and Thelma Beeton spoke at the Victorian Legal Services Board and Commissioner (VLSBC) today, to celebrate their new offices at 500 Bourke St in Melbourne CBD. VLSBC has previously licensed Thelma's work. Almost a year ago The Torch launched the 'Walpa' exhibition, where the VLSBC purchased two works by Robby Wirramanda and integrated them into their office design!    It was an action-packed afternoon of speeches, learning and celebrating. All from the lofty heights of the 27th floor!    If you or your organisation wants to collaborate with First Nations artists, we would love to hear from you! https://lnkd.in/gZgA297f #FirstNationsArt

'Future Dreaming' is an exhibition of 250 artworks created by First Nations artists incarcerated in Victorian prisons in 2024. Each artist has created an artwork that explores their concept of “Future Dreaming.” Re-entering society after incarceration is a challenging transition, with 50.2 per cent of incarcerated #Aboriginal and #TorresStraitIslanders returning to prison within two years of their release. The Torch works with artists to strengthen the cultural, economic, and social connections that help break the cycle of reoffending. Using brushes, paint and canvas, artists participating in 'Future Dreaming' explore dreamt and potential pathways ahead of their release. The resulting artworks express their visions and aspirations. Did you know our luxury eco glamping tents celebrate both nature and culture? Each tent is named after a native bird or animal found on our property in the First Nations language of the traditional landowners, the Taungurung people, and feature an original artwork by indigenous artists from The Torch program. Ngarna - Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoo Gawarn, Echidna Dulewurrung, Platypus Galorrong, Wedge Tailed Eagle The Torch provides art, cultural, and arts industry support to Indigenous offenders and ex-offenders in Victoria through its Indigenous Arts in Prisons and Community program. The program has proven to reduce reoffending rates through cultural strengthening and artistic expression. This indigenous led organisation provides pathways for change with 100% of the proceeds of the artwork going directly to the artist. 📖 Discover the stories behind the art: Ngarna (Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoo) by Wayne C, Wemba Wemba people. “My totem guides me and keeps me safe” Gawarn (Echidna) Echidna Story by Aroona Wergaia/Wotjobaluk people. “It's about traditional pre-marriage lores and customs from the Dreamtime story of the echidna that Pop taught us. The echidna was meant to marry to above and to the left, but he stole another young lady from the right and below. He broke lore and his punishment was to be speared, which now represents his quills”. Dulewurrung (Platypus) Finding My Way, Waka Man, Waka Waka people. “This platypus represents me. The different colours and dots represent who I am and my values as an Aboriginal man. I'm trying to find my way and place in this world. The dotted circles represent the different tribes of all my people.” Galorrong (Wedge Tailed Eagle) Titled A New World by Ash Thomas, Yorta Yorta/Wiradjuri people. “This painting is about the beauty that my ancestors saw when their world first saw light, just one of the beautiful things our mother spirit has given along with our beautiful Country that is full of culture and stories passed down through the years” We are proud to support The Torch. Looking out on to spectacular countryside, the eco glamping tents and the beautiful artworks housed within are a testament to nature’s beauty. Leadership | Economic Development | International Relations

I am proud to share that I have taken on the role of Chairperson at The Torch, and I look forward to supporting the organisation into it's next phase with our wonderful leadership team Kent Morris & Susannah Day. Since 2011 The Torch has been providing art, cultural and arts industry support to Indigenous offenders and ex-offenders in Victoria through its Indigenous Arts in Prisons and Community program. The program supports the development of self-esteem, confidence and resilience, through cultural strengthening and artistic expression. The Torch assists artists to reconnect with culture and earn income from art sales (with 100% of the artwork price going directly to the artist), licensing and projects. I would like to acknowledge, our outgoing Chair the Hon. Jeff Kennett AC for his leadership of the past 9-years to ensure The Torch remains a leader in our important space.
