Where you belong. The Y in Australia focuses on the healthy living, empowerment & social impact of young people. Each year we record over 30 million participations in our programs and services! The majority are in the healthy living space – with 20 million participations in our health clubs and 4.3 M swimming lessons a year! Just over 1 million participations are recorded in our youth specific programs and another 1 million in our camping programs. And we have almost 3 million participations in our children's services including kindergartens, early learning centres, outside school hours care and vacation care.

🌟The Y welcomes pay rise for our nation’s early childhood care workforce🌟 The Y in Australia warmly welcomes the Australian Government’s announcement of a 15% pay increase over two years for Early Childhood and Education Care (ECEC) employees. The Government has also confirmed the increase will apply to Out of School Hour Care staff. 📈💼 Interim CEO Alexandra Ash GAICD said the Y has long added its voice to the sector’s calls for wage increases for this vital workforce. Funding for a significant wage increase was the key priority for the Y in our Federal Budget submission and our submissions to Government Inquiries over the last two years. 📜💬 “As the Prime Minister put it so well – 'early educators shape lives and change lives',” Alexandra said. 👶✨ “The Y employs around 4000 ECEC staff across Australia. We know firsthand their importance to both children and families, to childhood development, and to support women’s participation in the workplace. 👨👩👧👦👩🏫 These staff deserve to be paid properly. 💪💰 We look forward to working with the Government on implementation. 🌟 Congratulations to Kyle Chalmers on his stunning swim in the men’s 100m freestyle event in Paris. 🌟 His silver medal finish was the second fastest time any human had ever swum in the 100m! 🏊♀️ China’s Zhanle Pan broke his own world record by an astonishing 0.40 seconds, and finished 1.08 seconds ahead of Chalmers. But for Chalmers to medal in this event now across three Games — gold in Rio, silver in Tokyo and Paris — elevates him to the very highest tier of Australian swimmer. Longevity in such a physically demanding event is rare. The Y team is incredibly proud of Kyle, an Ambassador for the South Australian Aquatic and Leisure Centre (SALC) and YMCA Victoria. Another amazing Youth Parliament that took place earlier this month in South Australia. 👏 👏 👏
Earlier this month the YMCA SA Youth Parliament took place at Parliament house, providing an opportunity for young people to voice their ideas, thoughts and opinions. Over the week, participants learned about parliament, debated, discussed and put forward robust ideas about what they believe in. Participants discussed topics including homelessness, the environment, cultural protection, pathway to sports, intergenerational connections, youth aboriginal repatriation, public transport and more. Thank you to all of the work put in by our program leaders, volunteers, supporters, and a thank you to those staff, MPs, parents and community members who came to watch the program in action.

🌟 Celebrating Our OSHC Educators! On OSHC Educators’ Day we’d like to shine a light on our brilliant teams who create welcoming, fun and safe environments for over 1,000 children. Across our nine Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) venues, our dedicated Educators build strong relationships with children and families. They ensure that kids can be themselves, enjoy leisure-based activities, learn new skills and have fun. Their outstanding commitment to program planning, infusion of creativity and the selection of activities based on children’s interests, create experiences that engage and excite. 🚀 Over 800 families use our OSHC services throughout the year. This support helps them participate in employment, study, and other commitments, all while being assured that their children are doing so much more than just spending time in a safe space. 🌟 We’re going Green and Gold for the Olympics! 🌟 With a rich history of sports innovation – including introducing basketball and volleyball to the world – we proudly support all Olympians, especially our Aussie team, as they bring their best to the Paris Olympics. A special shoutout to our very own Emma Jane Nedov, who made a remarkable comeback this year. After a 3 ½ year break from gymnastics, Emma, at the age of 28, competed in the Women's Artistic Gymnastics in Paris. Emma started gymnastics in Sydney at the age of 5 with The Y NSW and now serves as a volunteer director at The Y Whittlesea. Her father, Richard Nedov, is Chair of Y Services Pty Ltd and a former Y Australia Board member. On Sunday, Emma proudly represented Australia in the uneven bars, the beam, and on the floor.
