About us
We're an ethically accredited social enterprise that provides employment and training in the fashion industry to women from refugee and new migrant communities in clothing production, retail, marketing and design. We believe that tapping into the creativity of refugee communities can lead to empowerment and social inclusion. We've been providing first Australian jobs, training, outreach programs and pathways to employment since 2014. The Social Outfit is a registered Incorporated Association, and recognised as a Public Benevolent Institution Charity. Further, as a trading social enterprise, any income generated from product sales is directed back into the organisation in order to deliver on our social mission. We are registered with, and report regularly to, the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). We are also ethically accredited by Ethical Clothing Australia and the Good On You app. The Social Outfit is accredited and licensed to display the Ethical Clothing Australia trademark on its Australian-made garments. Ultimately, we want to continue to make and sell quality products that help financially empower people, and provide customers with unique pieces that tell amazing human stories.

We have trained over 1,000 and employed 106 individuals from refugee and new migrant backgrounds. But we promise that we are not just stopping there... Our goal has been to reach this milestone and it would not be possible without everyone who has supported The Social Outfit over the past 10 years. To achieve this kind of impact undoubtedly takes a village and there are so many to thank over the years from our amazing supporters, industry partners, funders, leaders, volunteers and team members. Thank you to our wonderful customers without whom we could not continue to grow. And finally, the biggest thank you goes to all the refugee & new migrant women who trusted us and became our friends over the years. We will never cease to be amazed by their courage and to learn from them! We are committed to our mission and dedication to provide meaningful impact that makes a true difference to women's lives as they settle in Australia. #empowerher Westpac Foundation Judith Neilson Foundation Ecstra Foundation Sally McGeoch Jas Chambers Mangala Martinus Bianca Spender Clare Press ALEMAIS House Of Welcome Lotus People Weld Stories Peter Simon Phillips David Hardie Multicultural NSW Paul Ramsay Foundation Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation Natalie Shehata Kate Clugston Timothy Goh Sonya Price-Kelly Joucelen Gabriel Beverley Brock Adele Bettiol Laura Anderson Eliza da Costa Camilla Schippa Jacquie Macdougall many more

Governor-General Sam Mostyn AC wore a custom-made The Social Outfit suit at her Swearing-in Ceremony. Made for and paid for by Sam Mostyn, the making of the suit has supported the upskilling of our team of refugee women. Bianca Spender, The Social Outfit Ambassador and a favourite designer of Sam Mostyn, kindly donated one of her designs for the suit. The suit was made from fabric donated by Bec Bridge by Xiuyan Han, who is employed as a Senior Sewing Technician at The Social Outfit. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gzAGqgBH

Today we also want to spotlight Maria’s cross-stitch workshop. Maria is our past Retail Trainee and today she shares her cross-stitch skills for Bayside Council (NSW) this week. We were excited to offer her the opportunity to become one of our workshop facilitators for today’s workshop at Eastgardens Library. Maria chose the word ‘Hope’ to teach to cross-stitch in her workshop. "Hope was the word that stayed with me in difficult days waiting to come to Australia. So, I think, everyone should believe in this word." - Maria This week's fundraising efforts during our Wear The Change challenge will directly impact future women and opportunities, like Maria's workshop. Help us support and empower more women like Maria. https://lnkd.in/gNd4PY7 #wearthechange2024 Sonya Price-Kelly Laura Anderson Eliza da Costa Beverley Brock Jacquie Macdougall David Hardie Adele Bettiol Joucelen Gabriel
