The Carers Place has NEW owners!   I am very excited to share that as of Monday, 11 March 2024 The Carers Place will be under the new leadership of Kollen Sussman and Samuel Crinall of OnSide NDIS, ONE GOOD* DAY and Ablelink.   The Carers Place will continue to operate as it has and under The Carers Place brand. The team and clients remain and will continue to grow.   I could not be prouder of the organisation I have created and the impact we have had on the disability and community services sectors through my vision.    As the disability sector grows and evolves so do I. I firmly believe that this is the BEST move for me, The Carers Place (TCP) Team and Clients who will find themselves more supported and well versed to navigate the next phase of transition in the sector with strong governance from Kollen & Sam.   I visioned The Carers Place, particularly our Support Coordination services for a number of reasons.    Motivation one: when I needed a great coordinator to support my family, I realised quickly that quality supports just weren’t there.   Motivation two: as a carer I didn’t think I was employable (I needed to work), I just had ‘too much going on’.   For two years after my son transitioned to the scheme, I struggled to understand the NDIS, his plan and how it could help him. We didn’t use his plan for two years, because it was so overwhelming. I thought, if I am struggling how on earth are our most vulnerable able to navigate this beast?   Combining these things, and with a fire in my belly, I set out to do better. I set out to make a difference, work a little and create positive change. I didn’t set out to employ people, create countless opportunities or build a business….   I am grateful for > every client we have served; > every family we have helped in some way; > every employee that has walked through our doors and contributed to the fabric of TCP; > the incredible disability community for embracing and trusting me; and > for the opportunities the last eight years have bought me.   This is not the end for me, you can’t get rid of me that easily.    I am off to take a well-earned rest, climb some mountains and ground myself in nature as I dream up my next big thing.   All I can say is, thank you.   Cass. x #mediarelease #change #evolution #ndis https://lnkd.in/gxcgVFSM

An historic day for Australians with the NDIS Review Recommendations being released. We have 26 recommendations and 139 actions. I congratulate the #NDIS Independent Review Panel and the Australian Federal Government for commissioning and supporting this work. Big thanks to every single person and business who has contributed toward this huge body of work, what an undertaking....but the real work begins now. I firmly believe that all Australians will be better off for these changes, the Review Panel estimate if recommended changes are implemented that it will take up to five years for full implementation. There are some significant concerns that seem to be emerging from this document, however one must fully absorb before being able to fully comment. 😱 So, you can guess what I will be doing in the coming days and weeks, yep, digesting and interpreting the 338 page document and what it means for our community and our sector in the weeks, months and years to come. I will also be getting together with some of my favorite people to gossip, natter and hypothesise on what is to come. Tomorrow at the VERY LAST Connect & Collaborate Breakfast, Justine Hall and I will give a high level overview of some of the key recommendations and commentary that has come out of the report thus far. Some things that have been highlighted include: 👉 Unified System of Support ‘foundational supports’ and early childhood pathways 👉 Introduction of various levels of 'Navigators' and what looks like the end of Plan Management as we know it (however this is only the beginning).... - General Navigators - Specialist Navigators - Psychosocial Navigators - Housing & Living Navigators 👉 New approach for psychosocial disability 👉 Greater flexibility withing plans 👉 House and Living reforms 👉 Introduction of Registration for all providers at differing levels proportionate to service provision risk There's so much more, so watch this space. A brief guide to the final report is available 👉 https://buff.ly/47Ja7A5 Access the full report 👉 https://buff.ly/3Nh0793. An Easy Read version is also available 👉 https://buff.ly/3t5KZEt. You can watch Minister Bill Shorten's address to the National Press Club by clicking the video, it was certainly an impressive address. #NDISReview #NDISprovider #schemenavigator #navigator #supportcoordination #planmanagement https://lnkd.in/du__VmUm

I urge you to take the time to watch the inaugural Disability Leadership Oration (speech) by the powerhouse Natalie Wade of Equality Lawyers. You may know that yesterday was the International Day of Person's with Disability. The Oration was exceptionally presented and delivered. It talks to ending segregation, focuses on 'housing' and gives an insight into what growing up living with disability is like. It includes how people are subjected to damaging biases, assumptions, and violations of human rights. Natalie talks to true inclusion for people with disability, she acknowledges parents and carers and in the midst of a moving and poignant speech she uses humour along the way. This isn't just a program produced for those immersed in the disability sector, but for every single one of us. You can check it out here https://lnkd.in/g6ekuGQj #leadership #AdaptiveLeadership #disability #inclusion #HumanRights #IDPWD Pic Desc: Woman with long brown hair, wearing glasses in a long green dress, arms crossed, sitting in a wheelchair in the middle of a stage. Behind her is a blurred setting like windows at night time with bright lights from buildings in the rear.
