Never heard of NAIDOC? NAIDOC stands for National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. In 1975 NAIDOC Week was established as a way to celebrate and recongise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It’s an opportunity to learn about First Nations cultures and histories. This year’s theme is Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud which celebrates the unyielding spirit of First Nations communities and invites all to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that have long been silenced. NAIDOC Week runs from 7 – 14 July. At TelstraSuper, we’re encouraging our people to spend some time to increase their knowledge about our First Nations peoples. You can get involved by learning more on the NAIDOC website below. #BlakLoudAndProud #Reconciliation #NAIDOCWeek #NAIDOC24
