On AI for learning opportunities, as opposed to AI for productivity: “I've actually been asked this question: ‘What happens if a student copies and pastes the advice from Studiosity straight into the assignment?’ And I've had to say, well, from the examples we've looked at, you can't really do that. It's not the way it's written. It's suggesting changes and saying, well, here's a slightly different way that you would structure that sentence… …So I don't think it's a straight drop-in. There are other things that do straight drop-ins, which I don't think are a good idea for students to use because they just don't learn anything. On using AI learning technology for scale, and for incorporating the learning opportunity outputs into existing staff processes of student support and feedback: “There are a lot of thoughts that have come back from colleagues about the long-term effect of having more feedback. They said to us as well, ‘I physically couldn't give that much feedback to my students. It's impossible.’ We've got a cohort of 500 students in some areas of the business school. The depth is more…” “…you still need humans in there, right? They would say, ‘Okay, I can see that's really good. I can see if the student went through and followed that advice, actually, yes, that would make that assignment better.’” “...it's about that human touch. On normalising help-seeking for repeated formative feedback to improve academic writing skills: “... when students were first allowed to use Studiosity Plus and submit their written work multiple times, they were doing just that. On the importance of keeping ‘humans in the loop’ for both ongoing qualitative purposes in Studiosity Plus AI learning technology, as well as connecting to additional University in-person support: “...we've not simply cut away the humans, they're still there. On using actionable data to focus where your additional student support resources should be targeted: “...for the first time ever, I get to be able to later today go to the data in Studiosity, pick up the data about referencing, and match that against the different cohorts we've got in our university. So our colleagues who, in the library here where I'm sat at the moment, will be able to have targeted discussions… So which students should you help, or could you help the most? Or which students need the help the most?
