Updates

  • We are excited to announce that Steelcad is now using Tekla Structures (TS) 2024. Let us tell you why this is a big deal! As many companies can attest to, when upgrading TS versions, we generally carry along past settings and files. Steelcad is no different. For years we have carried previous TS settings and custom files as well as add to them along the way. TS 2024 marks a new beginning at Steelcad. Out of a desire to enhance our productivity and efficiency, boosted by 18 years’ experience of our lead developer, we have meticulously combed over all files from custom UDA names to component saved settings, drawing settings, templates, reports, NC and DXF export, and the list goes on. We have tested new options (eg RGB colours), components and extensions to see how much more we can extract out of this software. A part of Steelcad’s drawing office operations is the use of TS API which enables us to create apps and plugins. Again, TS 2024 marks a new era of this. Our primary app, SD Model Manager (SD MM), has been rebuilt from the ground up to enhance the performance of TS, improve the user-experience and accelerate our detailer’s efficiency both in the model and drawing environments. SD MM will continue to get improvements in the coming months, such as the ability to check drawings electronically. With 3 of our software programmers busily working away on different tools, our sights are set high for this project.

  • Steelcad has recently completed the impressive Charter Hall project on Culya Street, Pinkenba. Thanks to our valued client McNab, Steelcad started work on this project back in September 2023. Every project comes with its own set of challenges, and this one was no exception. The design concept required innovative thinking and precise execution in the modelling phase. The success of this project was a testament to the close teamwork and collaboration between Steelcad and McNab. Recently, some of our team had the opportunity to walk through the site. The first warehouse was at lock-up stage and the second building still at steel in erection phase. It was a good learning experience for some of our junior staff to see the progress firsthand. This project has been a satisfying undertaking, and witnessing its development up close was truly motivating for those involved.

  • With cold metal rolling on the rise, some of the Steelcad team recently visited a metal rolling facility to see firsthand how this cold forming technique works. The tour of Advanced Metal Curving included a live demonstration of their cold rolling process method and a Q&A session with the operators. Thank you to the team at Advanced Metal Curving for their time hosting our visit and sharing ideas with us! https://lnkd.in/gzSrkJ9v

  • Throughout our 30 years of operation, Steelcad has recognised the importance of training cadet drafters and modellers to reinforce the skills base of the drawing office. One of the key tools in use in our drawing offices is Tekla Structures 3D modelling and detailing software. Tekla encompasses world leading technology specifically engineered for the Construction Modelling and Steel Detailing profession. To further support our cadets, we are happy to announce we’ve developed a comprehensive Tekla training manual that provides our cadets with a step-by-step guide on how to model and detail using Tekla Structures along with the vast array of Steelcad’s custom tools. The benefits of this training manual? 1. It allows our cadets to learn at their own pace. 2. This Tekla training is embedded in our internal steel detailer training and construction industry awareness. 3. Upon completion, they will have a thorough understanding of the Tekla Structures software and Steelcad’s custom tools. 4. Cadets will gain a solid understanding of Steelcad production workflows, boosting productivity and enhancing their industry knowledge. We are confident, that the 15 modules in our Tekla training manual will prove to be an invaluable resource for our cadets. We see this initiative as an important contribution to giving our cadets a solid foundation upon which they can build a fulfilling career in the steel construction industry. Here are some highlights of the training manual we are excited to share with you all.
