London Legal News: Clifford Chance Revamps Associate Bonus Structure with a Shift Toward a US-Style Model Clifford Chance is making waves in the legal world with its recent adaptation of the associate bonus system, moving towards a more U.S.-style pay structure. While maintaining its commitment to "well-rounded" performances, this new approach will better reward associates during times of exceptional demand. The number of hours billed will now play a more significant role in determining bonus payouts, aligning compensation more closely with U.S. firms. But it's not just about billable hours. The firm will continue to recognise broader contributions, including business development, thought leadership, and pro bono work, ensuring a holistic experience for its associates. This move is a strategic response to the competitive pressure from U.S. firms in London. Clifford Chance recently increased NQ pay to £150,000 and is exploring further modifications to its remuneration model to retain and attract top talent.
