“Long story short, I was basically in prison, and I was really looking to pull my head in. I turned 30, and it was time to change. One of the boys in there told me about Soft Landing and the opportunities they give you." - Nasser Mustafa For every 23 mattresses we collect and recycle each day at Soft Landing, we create a job for someone who really needs one ♻️🌟 Nasser Mustafa, one of our hard-working, charismatic Perth team members, shared his story with Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Perth this week – and it's a powerful reminder of this mission in action: 🛏️ Nasser says, "There’s no judgement here; as long as you’re willing to work hard and put in the effort, that’s all that’s needed.” ⭐ Nasser didn’t waste any time: “I got out on a Saturday, came on the Monday, started work on the Thursday. I haven’t looked back since, haven’t been in trouble since – nothing.” 🛏️ He shares what working at Soft Landing is like: “It’s very, very physical, but that’s probably the best part – the day flies past. We’re ripping the mattress, getting all the foam out. Everything we’re taking out of it is reused. It’s tough work, but it keeps me focused." ⭐ Nasser talks about the difference this job has made in his life: “Growing up, I wasn’t working; I was hanging around, doing really stupid stuff. Now, coming to work gives me balance and consistency. My life has excelled, but to maintain that, I have to come to work, and I love it.” 🛏️ Reflecting on the unique environment at Soft Landing, Nasser adds: “Basically, the way we all like to look at it, we're like... the kids that could never fit in a classroom – we come here with the music and work, and we can all get it done.” 🎧 Thank you Nasser for sharing your incredible story with us – and thank you ABC Perth for capturing it! 🚀 Big News for Soft Landing Perth! 🚀 We’re excited to announce the official opening of our new Perth site in Wangara, expanding our capacity to recycle even more mattresses, whitegoods and furniture! 🎉 This new space helps us better meet the growing recycling needs of Perth residents and support local job creation. Over the past five years, we’ve worked with local councils, retail partners and residents to collect and recycle nearly 500,000 mattresses and 30,000 whitegoods, diverting over 13,000 tonnes of waste from landfill. Now, with our new facility, we’re ready to do even more! ♻️ 🗣️ “The move to this larger site allows us to better serve our community by increasing our recycling capabilities and expanding our services while supporting our mission to create jobs for people with barriers to employment,” says Mike Pennington, WA State Manager. 🗣️ “We are thrilled to offer our team an even better working environment and look forward to growing our partnerships with local councils and businesses,” says Harry Daniels-Grant, WA Site Manager.
