While not the walking away with the top prize, Vinicius provided an attention-grabbing presentation on his work into space law and assessing the security of Australia’s space infrastructure. About us
The SmartSat CRC will create leapfrogging technologies in advanced telecommunications and smart satellite systems to build Australia’s space infrastructure for advanced communications and connectivity, remote sensing and monitoring for its land, seas and oceans. It brings together nearly 100 partners and international collaborators which, together with significant investment by the Australian Federal Government, have committed $245 million, represents the biggest space industry R&D collaboration in Australia’s history. The SmartSat CRC will ensure Australia can execute a technological leap-frog to deliver smart satellite systems that are Australian designed, owned and operated and that will deliver the nation real-time connectivity, surveillance and sensing capability over land and sea, earth observation data to monitor climate and development, and the power to drive industry innovation and the growth of the Internet of Things. The SmartSat CRC will support Australia and Australian business and industry to be players in these areas of industry growth and innovation. It will also provide a platform for new generations of innovators to advance their research careers and develop their ideas and innovations. 📢 SmartSat CRC announced today the first four new jointly funded space research projects and opened further funding opportunities in partnership with New Zealand’s MBIE Science and Innovation. The four initial research projects, commencing in August 2024, include research into monitoring methane emissions, enhancing real-time monitoring of greenhouse gases, managing free space optical communication nodes across Australia and New Zealand, improving the tracking of space objects, and developing a joint AUS-NZ concept for maritime domain awareness. "I am very proud that something I’m so passionate about is good enough to receive recognition" 🏆🛰️ SmartSat CRC PhD Student Franke Agenbag has been awarded the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG)'s Innovation and Intrapreneurship in Government: Women in Innovation Award for her pioneering liquid lens imaging system. The device, which incorporates a liquid lens, a mechanical arm, and a dual-surfaced mirror that can be manually controlled to capture an array of perspectives of the satellite and its surroundings, will be utilised on the upcoming Buccaneer Main Mission project. Franke's SmartSat project seeks to develop automated method of detecting, characterising, and responding to radiation events in space.
