With Six Degrees involved in the delivery of 2,100 homes in the last decade, our housing projects are driven by empathy and a commitment to place and community, with an emphasis on quality of life and physical and mental well-being. Every apartment, whether privately owned or social, is designed to provide a sense of arrival, connection to natural light and open spaces.   We collaborate with landscape architects and seek to engage with Traditional Owners to ensure our buildings are more than just structures—they become integral parts of their neighbourhoods. By prioritising urban connectivity, we create places that encourage interaction and endure over time, all while remaining affordable.   As we work with our clients to meet the critical demand for housing, we stay focused on delivering spaces that are functional, sustainable, and enriching for the people who live in them.   Photography:   Image 1: Heller St by Joel Noon Image 2: Nightingale 2.0 by Rory Gardiner Image 3: DHHS 90 Brunswick St Foyer by Emma Cross Image 4 and 5: Ferrars & York by Dan Preston   Visit https://lnkd.in/ggDCvjfS to see recent Six Degrees’ housing projects.

We are proud to share that Icon work in the social procurements space on Homes Victoria’s Ground Lease Model project won the Master Builders Victoria Award for Excellence in Social Procurement at Friday night’s awards event!.   Of course none of this would be possible without First Nations involvement included: Little Rocket (design integration and wayfinding), Wurundjeri artist Alex Kerr and his brother Ash Firebrace, Bunurong artist Kobi Sainty Art; Wamarra (landscape installation Brighton). Cultural guidance was provided by proud Noongar man Jordan Falla, Barpa Construction Services.   Our teams behind the GLM projects worked closely with the Wurundjeri and Bunurong Traditional Owner Groups. This is a great example of where we have been able to achieve social procurement outcomes through design to not only support indigenous business but also create meaningful connections to Country and share the rich stories of First Nations people for generations to come.   Working with our Building Communities partners Tetris Capital and Community Housing Ltd this award highlights our unwavering commitment to engaging Aboriginal businesses through a self-determining process that drives deep social impact within the community.   To learn more about the project, watch the short video below: We are so proud of this achievement! Six Degrees is delivering nearly 1,000 new homes—spanning social, affordable, specialist disability, and market rental housing—across three sites as part of Homes Victoria’s Ground Lease Model (GLM).   We believe everyone deserves a home that is liveable, dignified, and connected to the fabric of the city — the key measure we ask ourselves: would we want to live here?   We recently completed 359 social and affordable homes at Victoria St, Flemington as part of GLM1. It’s been rewarding to hear that residents feel happy and proud to call these new spaces home.   Phase 2 will add another 286 homes to the site by 2026.   This Public Private Partnership (PPP) involves a not-for-profit consortium, Building Communities, alongside partners including ICON, Community Housing Ltd, and Tetris Capital.   Photography: Alex Reinders   Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country For more Six Degrees housing projects visit: https://lnkd.in/ggDCvjfS

Six Degrees and Includesign have been shortlisted as finalists for the NSW Government's Pattern Book Competition!     Selected from 212 submissions, we’re honoured to be part of the 15 finalists, including three international firms.   The competition aims to boost the supply of quality low- and mid-rise housing by pre-approving designs that can fast-track construction and streamline approvals. The winning designs will be featured in a pattern book, providing a blueprint for efficient, diverse, and replicable housing solutions.   The acting executive director at the Government Architect NSW, Paulo Macchia, said the criteria of “liveability, buildability, replicability, cost effectiveness and sustainability” were all taken into account by the jury.   Thanks to the panel responsible for evaluating entries: NSW government architect Abbie Galvin as jury chair; architect, urban designer and 2024 gold medalist Philip Thalis; NSW emerging architect 2024 Jennifer McMaster; architect and Indigenous spatial expert Michael Mossman, and international architect Paul Karakusevic, who is based in the UK. Two Eleven Sydney Road has been thoughtfully designed to stand the test of time, featuring natural and robust materials with quality detail. Good access to natural light, high-performing timber windows, dual aspect for cross-flow ventilation, high quality fixtures and fittings make the apartments liveable homes. Glass artisan Adam Hall of Adadaz Leadlights is a long term collaborator of Six Degrees who has been creating lead lights from his Hawthorn studio for over three decades. His work adds vibrant colour and a handmade touch to the main bedrooms and lobby. The bathrooms’ materiality is durable and warm, using terrazzo tiles, birch ply joinery, and raw brass fittings by Wood. Each dining area features hand-blown pendant lights, created by local designer Mark Douglass and his team. The custom door signage, was created by Stephen Banham of LETTERBOX. We're proud to continue our long-term collaboration with Adadaz Leadlight, whose unique stained glass windows have become a distinctive feature in our projects. Their craftsmanship brings a human touch and an unmistakable character to each building.   Yarraville Green marks our third project with Excelon, where we once again celebrate the individuality of artisan detail. This project exemplifies medium-density living, fostering community connections, shared spaces, and a strong commitment to environmental sustainability.   Stay tuned for more updates.   Architecture Six Degrees Architects Developer Excelon Landscape SBLA Studio   Stained glass window by Adadaz Film by The Sensory   Bunurong Boon Wurrung Country

Our recently completed Two Eleven Sydney Road project combines the character of old Brunswick, including a retained low-rise heritage facade to Sydney Road, with 21 new, generously sized apartments with great amenity, natural light and ventilation.   The efficient and environmentally sustainable development, incorporates open-air lanes, walkways and a rooftop terrace, all carefully designed to bring residents together, creating social connections that will, over time, foster a genuine sense of community throughout the building. From the selection of materials and the design and orientation of interior spaces to the inclusion of solar energy generation, water harvesting and storage, the building is engineered to achieve 7.5-star NatHERS rating.   Residents can wave across to their neighbours at adjacent Nightingale Housing by Austin Maynard Architects. Over the last 10 years, Barcelona has been rapidly increasing its social housing under the leadership of figures like former mayor, Ada Colau, who focused on prioritising housing as a basic right, rather than an investment. Colau's efforts have led to innovative measures, such as converting private residential blocks into council homes and providing protection for people threatened by eviction. The changes required developers to allocate 30% of new developments for social housing. After the 2008 recession, a crop of young architecture offices started exploring the non-for-profit cooperative housing space in Barcelona, and Lacol has been at the forefront of this movement, developing projects like La Borda and La Balma. Earlier this year, Lacol founding member Carles Baiges invited us to Barcelona to see their work firsthand. Six Degrees' Horaci Sanchez, a native Catalan himself, gained valuable insights during his recent visit. Read about it here: https://lnkd.in/d_8nWnXr

Impressions from a great night with BEULAH, introducing Brunswick Established to new residents; 23 heritage townhomes, sustainably designed around the three main pillars of circularity: designing out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in use and regenerating natural systems.
