🚨 Important Announcement: Queensland Implements Ban on Engineered Stone Work from 1 July 2024 🚨 Queensland's Minister for State Development and Infrastructure, Minister for Industrial Relations, and Minister for Racing, The Honourable Grace Grace, has declared a significant change affecting the industry: the cessation of all engineered stone work starting July 1, 2024. Key Takeaways for Industry: ✅ Cease Work with Engineered Stone: From 1 July 2024 all work related to engineered stone, including manufacturing, supply, processing, and installation of benchtops, panels, and slabs, must halt, regardless of prior contractual agreements. ✅ Safety is Paramount: The ban is enacted to safeguard worker health, addressing serious risks associated with engineered stone work, such as silicosis. Like asbestos, legacy engineered stone work will be permitted under stringent safety measures. ✅ Compliance is Essential: Businesses operating in the industry must adhere to the ban without exception. Our Managing Director, Gareth Davies, and new Senior Consultant Shane Kennedy conducted an audit at the Brunswick project for Hutchinson Builders and Frasers Property. With the Transfer Slab already poured last week, the project is expected to progress rapidly. It's worth noting that the slab was 1080 m3, requiring at least 135 concrete trucks and over 14 hours to complete. The coordination and execution of this task were truly remarkable, and the 1 metre thick slab was a sight to behold during our visit today.

🎉 We are excited to welcome Shane Kennedy to the SafeAssure Team as our new Senior Systems and Safety Consultant! 🎉 Shane brings over 19 years of extensive experience in the construction industry, encompassing hands-on roles as a Site Manager and Project Manager with a prominent national construction firm. Over the past 8 years, he has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to fostering safety and well-being among employees, subcontractors, clients, and the general public in his capacity as a National Systems and Safety Manager. Shane is a qualified Lead Auditor for OH&S (ISO 45001), Quality (ISO9001) & Environmental (ISO 14001) Management Systems and has consistently maintained a ‘low risk’ accreditation status through a number of annual Office of Federal Safety Commissioner (OFSC) audits over the years. Shane's achievements in the industry include being awarded the Master Builders Association (MBA) ACT WH&S Award (Open Category) in 2021 after having created an industry leading COVID Management Plan at the time COVID-19 was declared a pandemic in Australia, prior to any guidance being released from the Federal Safety Commissioner, SafeWork Australia, the MBA or the Queensland and Federal governments. We look forward to connecting our existing and new client’s with Shane and leveraging his years of expertise to assist in creating healthier, safer and more compliant workplaces.
