About us
The Reserve Bank of Australia is Australia's central bank. Its duty is to contribute to the maintenance of price stability, full employment, and the economic prosperity and welfare of the Australian people. It does this by setting the cash rate to meet a medium-term inflation target, working to maintain a strong financial system and efficient payments system, and issuing the nation's banknotes. The Bank provides selected banking services to the Australian Government and its agencies, and to a number of overseas central banks and official institutions. Additionally, it manages Australia's gold and foreign exchange reserves.

Across the Reserve Bank, analysts and economists use data daily to support business and policy decisions. The RBA recently held our annual ‘Dev Day’, where our citizen coders gathered for a day of hackathon-style activities, united by a shared passion for bringing data and analytical product ideas to life. Being its third year, the event has expanded beyond coding, encouraging attendees to explore broader data and product development ideas. Projects included improving RBA standard graph tools, creating AI-powered document search tools, and experimenting with peer-programming, all focused on smarter, simpler, faster ways of working. We would like to extend our particular thanks to Chief Economist of the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, Matt Cowgill for delivering the keynote address ‘improving analytical workflows with R’. The success of this year’s Dev Day reflects the RBA’s commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration. As data and technology continue to evolve, events like these ensure we remain at the forefront of analytical excellence.
