James Cook University inspires future business leaders with Heroes in Business Program 💫 For the fourth consecutive year, James Cook University has continued its tradition of empowering and inspiring the next generation of business leaders through the Heroes in Business program. This initiative offers local high school students from Year 11 and Year 12 a unique opportunity to explore careers in business, law, and finance. This year, students from Cairns, Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville and Brisbane had the privilege of experiencing a hands-on, immersive day at Queensland Country Bank. Through direct learning from industry experts, these aspiring professionals gained valuable insights and practical knowledge that are instrumental for their future career paths. Protecting Our Community: You’ve WON a Lottery - A Cautionary Tale In a recent incident, one of our valued members experienced a scam that serves as an important reminder for all everyone to stay vigilant. The member received a call from a well-known tech brand, informing them that they had won a lottery.  To claim the winnings, the scammer requested access the member’s bank account. Believing the call was real, the Member provided his login details, which allowed the scammer to gain unauthorised access to the account, set up a new device, and steal funds. The scammer assured the Member that the money would be returned, so the member didn’t report it right away.   Unfortunately, by the time the Member realised it was a scam and reported it, additional funds had been stolen, and recovery was no longer possible. This story highlights the importance of scepticism and vigilance when dealing with unsolicited calls or offers. Here’s how you can protect yourself: Protect your Information: Never share your personal, banking or identity details to anyone. Additionally, be cautious if asked to download an app or allow someone to access your device if they call! Report Suspicious Activity: If something feels off, report it immediately. Quick action can prevent further losses. Regularly Monitor Accounts: Keep an eye on your accounts for any unauthorised transactions or changes.
