The June AustraliaNOW report has just been released covering a range of hot topics. This month there was a spark of optimism returning to our shores with Australians paying more attention to this year’s Federal Budget and how the Government will support them with cost of living pressures. Overall, this year’s Budget was better received, with satisfaction higher than in 2023. This higher satisfaction has had a positive knock-on effect with an uptick in those who think Australia is heading in the right direction and in confidence in personal financial security. Both positive signs. In the full report we take a look at a range of topics including the Federal Budget, Government confidence, spending and bills, EOFY sales, migration, job security, conspiracy theories and safety and crime among others. The May AustraliaNOW report has just been released where we deep dive into two key issues - cost of living and housing. As a nation, we’re feeling slightly more optimistic than a year ago, but given the enduring cost of living pressures we’re focusing less on all aspects of our lives compared to this time last year. We feel the weight of climbing costs, where despite pulling back on our spending, the rising cost of essentials have seen our savings take a hit. We continue to feel it’s less realistic to own property given the current climate, seeing concern for homelessness rise year-on-year and driving increased appetite towards alternative housing options. In the full report we take a look at these topics in more detail along with Government confidence, spending and bills, job security, mood and outlook and areas of focus. The April AustraliaNOW report has just been released where we cover spending, finances, travel/events and utilities (energy including nuclear and water) among other topics. As a nation, we remain focused on two key issues: costs and housing affordability, as other issues take a backseat. Financial confidence remains low as we continue to deal with high prices for essentials. This is impacting our love affair with experiences, particularly events, with intentions to attend events starting to soften with the exception of our intention to travel. When asked (i.e. it’s not top of mind), more Australians compared to two years ago are likely to be concerned that Australia is vulnerable to potential foreign cyber-attacks on our systems. When it comes to the energy sector, many want action by Government and there is an increasing cohort wanting nuclear energy to be prioritised. Looking at our providers, we want more action taken on affordability and future planning across both water and energy. In the full report we take a look at these topics in more detail along with Government confidence, trust in news sources, job security, bill stress and support for small businesses. The March AustraliaNOW report has just been released ahead of International Women’s Day, where we wanted to know where Australians stood on gender equality. As a nation, we are increasingly recognising that there is more to be done when it comes to gender equality, and many expect companies to be doing something about it. Outside of the workplace, inequality exists across both financial security and personal safety. Women were considerably more likely to fall into the financially vulnerable cohort and are more likely to be undertaking cost cutting measures than men. Safety was also largely divisive where women were almost half as likely as men to feel safe when alone at night in various circumstances, likely playing a large role in shaping women's behaviours across various aspects of their lives. In the full report we also take a look at, priorities for Government action, financial confidence, spending and bills, work and entrepreneurship among other topics.
