This week Proximity hosted a vibrant NAIDOC Week morning tea, enjoying delicious catering featuring native ingredients from the 100% Indigenous-owned Ribanas Catering. We were lucky to be joined by our community partner, the Women's Legal Centre ACT & Region who are currently working out of our office’s East Wing. NAIDOC Week is running from 7-14 July and celebrates and recognises the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s theme chosen by the National NAIDOC Committee, is ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud’. This is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. Yesterday, we had the pleasure of joining the National Gallery team on a tour of Vincent Namatjira: Australia in Colour, as part of our Reconciliation Week activities. This event highlighted the power of storytelling through art in the journey towards reconciliation. Vincent Namatjira's vibrant and thought-provoking works provided a unique perspective on Australian history and identity. The exhibition fostered a deeper understanding of how art narrates history and influences reconciliation, encouraging us to learn from Indigenous perspectives and carry these insights into our lives.
