A great lifestyle in a treasured environment.
About us
Port Stephens is known for its incredible natural beauty and vibrant community, covering an area of close to 900 square kilometers and populated by over 75,000 people. Port Stephens is diverse – with coastal villages, riverside suburbs, rural lands and historic town centres, it’s the ideal tourism and retirement destination as well as a great place to live, work and play. We embrace the level of difference that each of our employees brings with them and offer working arrangements that allow employees to focus on the things they consider most important to them outside of their careers throughout all stages of their life! We live our values, are encouraged to express our ideas, place value on our personal and professional development, and come together to share ideas that will in turn enhance the wellbeing of our community. Port Stephens Council values Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and strives to create an inclusive workplace. We provide fair opportunities for development, progression, and work conditions to all. We celebrate differences in age, ethnicity, gender, religion, language, physical appearance, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, education, and diversity of thought. We’re inclusive and commit to creating a respectful and supportive environment for all individuals and groups, making reasonable adjustments to provide a positive, barrier-free recruitment process and supportive workplace We acknowledge the Worimi as the original Custodians and inhabitants of Port Stephens. May we walk the road to tomorrow with mutual respect and admiration as we care for the beautiful land and waterways together.

Following last month's local government elections, Mayor Leah Anderson met with the new look Hunter Joint Organisation Board at Maitland Town Hall 👏👏 Together with 9 other local Mayors, the board will explore the role of the Hunter JO and initial opportunities and priorities for working together before they collectively develop the new Strategic Plan and Advocacy Priorities for the Hunter region.
Today, we welcomed back four returning Mayors and six new Mayors to the Hunter Joint Organisation Board, following the recent local government elections. Together, our new Board will represent the Hunter region over the next four-year term in communicating and advocating the shared priorities of our member councils and their communities. Maitland City Council, Australia hosted the first meeting of the new Board, providing a space for the Mayors to come together for the first time, to explore the role of the Hunter JO and initial opportunities and priorities for working together. Further consultation will occur over the next six months as we collectively develop our new Strategic Plan and advocacy priorities for the Hunter region. During the formal Board meeting, we elected the Chair and Deputy Chair, who will be instrumental in advocating for the shared priorities of the Hunter region. Cr Sue Moore from Singleton Council has been appointed Chair. Cr Leah Anderson from Port Stephens Council has been appointed Deputy Chair. We’d like to acknowledge and thank Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold and General Manager, Jeff Smith CPA GAICD, who provided an overview of their dynamic and growing council area and for leading an insightful tour of the Maitland Regional Art Gallery, a valuable community asset for all of our region to enjoy. Our next meeting will be held at City of Newcastle, Australia in December, and we look forward to further engaging with the Mayors on their shared local and regional priorities in the lead up to the meeting.
