Build on something solid

About us

Henley Properties Group was founded in 1989 by three friends – Peter Hayes, Rob Bowen and John Harvey, with a vision to make home ownership more affordable for Australian families. That vision has seen us build over 50,000 homes across Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia under the brands Plantation Homes, Henley and Edgewater Homes. Our vision has never been to be the biggest, but to deliver homes with a sustainable business model to a consistently high standard. Since 2009, we have continued to operate as a local builder with the security and financial backing of our parent company, the Sumitomo Forestry Group. Over 330 years Sumitomo Forestry Group have expanded their businesses and now operate across forestry, manufacturing and distribution of timber and building materials, housing both in Japan and overseas, and biomass power generation. They have a shareholder funds position of AUD $7 billion (based on net assets of JPY 682.6 trillion at 31 December 2022 converted at the average exchange rate over the 12 months to that date). In 2022, group net sales were AUD $18.3 billion and recurring income was AUD $2.1 billion. The housing and construction businesses settled 26,000 detached homes and apartments. Sumitomo’s financial strength provides our team, customers, tradies and suppliers with the security and confidence that we can weather any storm. Today, our parent company, the Sumitomo Forestry Group (SFG), announced a 51% acquisition of Metricon Homes’ shares. Once this acquisition is complete, SFG will have shareholdings in Henley Properties Group, Scott Park Group in WA, Wisdom Homes in NSW and Metricon, making them the largest home builder in Australia. This is not a merger of operations and will not impact our current or future customers with the building of their homes. Having been competitors for many years, we will continue to operate independently. SFG’s aim is to lead the Australian housing sector with their strong financial foundation and create an environment where Australian families can build their homes with greater peace of mind. Congratulations SFG on being the largest builder in Australia; and we look forward to continuing to lead the way as your best business in Australia!

Can they fix it? 🏡🔨 YES they can!!!! 🔨🏡 It's National Tradies Day and today we say a big 'cheers' to the tradespeople who keep the building industry churning. Australia is lucky enough to have some of the most skilled tradies in the world, their hard work and dedication doesn't go unnoticed. We recognise that it takes a village to raise a house and precision and care to make it shine. To our talented team who put their hearts and souls into building homes and futures for Aussie families, we celebrate you! Your contribution to the construction industry is invaluable and truly appreciated. #tradie #trades #construction #homebuilding #craftsmanship #gratitude

Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. We acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands on which we work, live and play and we pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. We celebrate all cultures and genders, and know that the more diverse and inclusive we are, the better we can serve our community.    As Minister Andrew Giles mentions, Australia is one of the world's most successful multicultural nations and should be a country where you can aspire and succeed without restriction. We will continue to play our part in improving lives by creating better, happier and healthier homes for families. #everyonebelongs #harmonyweek #construction #tradies #inclusive

Every year in March, Australians come together to mark Harmony Week, culminating in the observance of the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on the 21st of March. Australia is one of the world’s most successful multicultural nations. We are home to the world’s oldest continuous cultures as well as migrants from nearly 200 countries. Multiculturalism is integral to our national identity- but we cannot take it for granted. No matter where you were born, what language you speak, or the faith you practice, Australia should be a country where you can aspire and succeed without restriction. #harmonyweek

This big cheque is a big win for tradie mental health! In 2023, TIACS, a TradeMutt initiative, provided invaluable support to nearly 4,000 clients, dedicating 6,272 hours to counselling sessions. This equates to a staggering $916,700 worth of services delivered back to the community, free of charge. As a Diamond partner, we recently contributed $120,000 to TIACS, which directly provides free mental health counselling sessions back into the blue-collar community of Australia. With the construction industry accounting for a significant portion of calls, we are steadfast in our commitment to supporting our tradies. We’ve also purchased over 5,000 bright and colourful TradeMutt shirts for our team and tradies to spark conversations about mental health to make the invisible impossible to ignore. Our CEO Antony Blackshaw, commended TradeMutt and TIACS for their exceptional work in driving mental health initiatives. “Together, we’re contributing to the overall wellbeing of tradies and blue-collar workers. We’re proud to invest in our industry, team, and community for better mental health and look forward to continuing to start more conversations around mental health,” he said. Call or text TIACS on 0488 846 988 8am-10 pm, AEST Monday to Friday, to speak to a counsellor. When Emily Smith, Residential Construction Supervisor, started in the industry aged 16 years, it was tough. In Emily’s words, “Inclusion and diversity have come a long way in the industry, and I now feel like I'm considered equal. I’m not seen as a woman or one of the 'blokes', but as another employee who has the skills to get the job done. I've been offered the same opportunities as others within the business, I’m always included, and I am part of the team with the same dream. I’m never considered less than anyone else and I encourage any woman that is considering taking the leap into the industry to do so,” she said. Shelley Becker – GM People, Culture & Safety, added: “We celebrate all cultures and embrace all genders because we know that the more diverse and inclusive we are, the better we can serve our diverse community. We are creating a more inclusive construction industry. We thank all the women who have joined us to make construction a more inclusive workplace. In the lead up to International Women’s Day, Friday 8 March, we ask you to help us make a difference - take a moment to share this post and maybe Emily’s story can inspire even just one more female to apply for a career in construction – they have our support! #internationalwomensday #IWD #construction #Empowerment #career #inspireinclusion

Meet Mark Hampshire, one of our 7-star energy experts!    Mark AKA Hamps is the chief pilot of our 7-star energy efficient homes which includes our Reserve range and our newly launched Mainvue Collection!   Hamps is also the brains behind our exclusive energy rating calculator. This innovative tool calculates provisional energy performances for customer’s specific lot, taking into account the orientation, house design and façade they’ve chosen, including the location of their garage (right or left side).   It means we can provide absolute certainty on the price when it comes to homes achieving 7-star compliance. Unlike some other builders, customers won’t find ambiguous or approximate sums in our quotes, which can later translate to expensive upgrades once they’ve already committed to them. #energy #construction #newhome #new #expert

We’re excited to unveil our 2nd range of 7-star energy efficient home designs - The Mainvue Collection, and further bust the myth and news reports that it’s more expensive to build more energy efficient homes. From May 2024, all new homes in Queensland must meet minimum 7-star energy efficiency standards due to new Government legislation to improve accessibility and sustainability. We made the commitment to forge ahead last July, launching the industry’s first 7-star range, Reserve. Reserve has been so well received by customers that we have now introduced Mainvue to give our customers even more choice at exceptional value. Throughout 2023, our team established itself as the industry’s energy experts, with customers questioning why they would build a 6-star home, when we can build them a 7-star luxury home without the high build costs they might’ve seen in the news or advertised elsewhere. They can’t see why they’d wait. Being part of the Henley Properties Group sees us proudly backed by our parent company, The Sumitomo Forestry Group. Their financial strength means we can continually invest in innovation, well ahead of the market. #innovation #sustainability #news #construction #energy

The subject of World Mental Health Day in 2023 is ‘Mental health is a universal human right.’   Every day we strive to achieve this through our ‘Building Healthy Minds’ program.   We are committed to building a culture that raises awareness, advances understanding and supports the health and safety of all our people, trades, suppliers and our customers at all times.   Underpinning the program is that mental health day is not just one day, it’s every day, and today especially is a good reminder to pause, reflect and check in on the wellbeing of ourselves, friends, family and colleagues.    If you or someone you know needs help, free and confidential mental health support is available by calling or texting TIACS on 0488 846 988 Mon-Fri 8am-10pm AEST to speak with a counsellor; or Lifeline Australia 24/7 by calling 13 11 14 or SMS 0477 13 11 14.
