Towards a Better Tomorrow - moving humanity towards a better tomorrow for girls and communities globally.

About us

Hunger, economic instability, climate change and conflict are devastating the lives of millions, pushing them further into disadvantage and inequality. Girls, globally, bear the greatest burden of this injustice - denied education, subjected to violence, and robbed of their freedoms. When offered the opportunity to learn, make decisions, thrive, and lead the change, we see girls rise to help create a better world for themselves, their families and the communities around them. This is why we are there, providing emergency response and long-term community development programs in 70 countries around the world. Working alongside local communities, we provide the support and assistance needed to survive emergencies and forge a way forward; to see girls valued and empowered, and future generations inherit a brighter, more equitable future. Together, we have the power to move humanity towards a better tomorrow for girls and communities globally. Will you join us?

  • New global research from Plan International has found that one in 10 (11%) of girls and young women reported having harmful online experiences daily or almost daily, with almost 40% reporting they have been harassed at least once a month. Girls and young women worldwide have for years, demanded social media and tech companies take urgent action to protect them, with study after study finding shocking accounts of escalating online violence – here in Australia and in almost all corners of the globe. This research comes as eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman - Grant, this week issued legal notices to large tech companies – holding them to account on what they are doing to combat AI-generated child abuse material, deep fakes, online grooming and sexual extortion. The legal notices will require tech giants such as Apple, Google and Microsoft in Australia to report to eSafety every six months about the measures they have in place to tackle online violence on their platforms. Girls have a right to be supported and protected from online violence and harm. Read our full statement here: https://lnkd.in/gguSswps Susanne Legena

  • Today, together with other humanitarian organisations, we provide a snapshot of the immense obstacles that are getting in the way of delivering aid to children and families in #Gaza who desperately need it. For Plan International and our partners, trucks containing 1,030 food kits and 1,350 hygiene kits have been stuck in Egypt for more than one month. And a further 1,000 bedding sets have been procured in Egypt but are also unable to enter. Alongside many other humanitarian organisations, we note that our presence in Gaza is solely due to the unwavering commitment of our colleagues despite great risks to their own lives. The danger our colleagues are exposed to each moment are unacceptable. Today, the issue is not just a "shrinking" humanitarian space; there is hardly any space left to operate in at all. Together, we continue to call for an immediate and lasting #CeaseFireNow. It is the only way to provide humanitarian assistance and protect lives.   Read the full report of the daily challenges faced by humanitarians, made worse by conflict, bombardment, gunfire, and siege tactics here: https://lnkd.in/gsKAJT83 Susanne Legena

  • It's that time of the year again! Our amazing supporter, Harv Kler, is lacing up his running shoes to take on #City2Surf for an impressive 6th consecutive year! Over the last 5 years, with support from his amazing family, friends and colleagues, Harv has raised over $250,000 and sponsored 86 girls through his City2Surf fundraising efforts. But he’s not stopping there. This year Harv’s goal is to sponsor 101 girls and raise over $75,000! We are so grateful for Harv’s dedication to girls education and empowerment and the incredible impact he's making with the support of his community. There is still time to support Harv and help him reach his goal. Every donation brings us closer to a better and more equal world for all children. Go Harv! • In emergencies, it is difficult for girls, women and people who menstruate to manage their periods with dignity as access to period products, water and other essential services become limited. Our Children in Crisis Fund provides dignity and hygiene kits to help in the management of periods in emergencies. They include necessities like soap, sanitary pads and toilet paper. Between November and December 2023, we provided 1,000 dignity kits to refugees from Sudan. By becoming a Plan Rapid Responder, you can make sure that menstrual health management is a priority in emergencies for those who need it. Join today: https://lnkd.in/gRC_uPHG Susanne Legena

  • Plan International condemns the attacks by the Russian military across Ukraine, including on the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv which has resulted in over 20 people confirmed dead. The ongoing war in Ukraine is having a catastrophic impact on children’s physical and mental health. Civilians, especially children, must be protected and not targeted. We demand an immediate and unequivocal end to all violations against children in conflict and for International Humanitarian Law to be respected. Donate now to provide lifesaving humanitarian assistance for children in Ukraine through our Children in Crisis Fund: https://lnkd.in/gRC_uPHG Read our full media statement: https://lnkd.in/gYRf7Kq9 Susanne Legena
