pitt&sherry completed the temporary works and erection for this new walking and cycling bridge over Whitehall St in Yarraville as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project. We designed the support and stability arrangement for each girder along with falsework, formwork and edge enclosure to keep crews safe. Each night this week our team is overseeing installation for the final spans. We are thrilled to announce Rocío R. as the new chair of the Materials & Embodied Carbon Leaders’ Alliance Working Group 2 – Evaluation. “Measuring embodied carbon is a system's exercise. We must understand the parts, the whole, and key areas for intervention. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, but establishing a common language and standardised process for measurement, benchmarking, and reporting is crucial. Similarly, ensuring data reliability and developing industry-level databases are essential next steps. This is an exciting time to co-design our sustainable & circular future“ - Rocio Rutter In her new position as chair, Rocio will be working with industry, government and construction materials supply chain representatives in a collaborative effort to measure, benchmark and reduce the upfront carbon emissions of our infrastructure sector. #sustainability #embodiedcarbon #circulareconomy #systemsthinking #netzero #pittsherry

Yesterday, pitt&sherry’s Jonas Zhanghao Li joined Western Sydney University’s “Building Resilient Futures: Addressing Climate Change Through Infrastructure Innovation” event. The panel talked about how academia, industry, policymakers, and communities can collaborate to tackle climate challenges through innovative, resilient infrastructure. Jonas and the panel highlighted several points, including: ◼ By 2050, 68% of the global population will live in urban areas, and Australia already has more than 70%. The growing population and urban expansion will require more roads & infrastructure. ◼ Some government bodies and road authorities aim to achieve net zero by 2045 instead of 2050. To meet this goal, collaboration between academia, industry, policymakers, and engineers is crucial to work on demonstrating several Net Zero infrastructure projects in the next 5-10 years. Early feasibility demonstration is important for future projects to learn and improve best practices. ◼ Consistent carbon footprint accounting is crucial. We need a benchmarking system for project performance, using past road projects and experiences from built environment rating systems like Nabers means we are not starting from scratch. Well done to the whole panel for an insightful event. #NetZero #Sustainability #InfrastructureResilience
