🚀 Announcing 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 2024 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 by Parpera 🚀 For over four years, we’ve been talking to Aussie small business owners to get to the heart of the issues they face. Aussie business owners are increasingly suffering. To raise awareness and call for urgent action, we’ve combined our experience with insights from 1,500 businesses to paint a detailed view of what's 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 going on. Our inaugural report dives deep into the challenges, opportunities, and trends shaping the small business landscape in Australia. 🇦🇺 Australia has experienced a decade-long surge in entrepreneurial activity, with the total number of businesses growing from 2 to 2.6 million. This growth reflects the passion, creativity, and desire for independence that drives many Australians to start their own business. But underlying it are some urgent issues that need attention: 🔍 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐈𝐧𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Everyday Australians are being left behind, with real wages declining by ~2% over the past decade. 📈 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 “𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐨-𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬”: Aussies are turning to entrepreneurship to make ends meet, with a 3.2% increase (4-year CAGR) in non-employing businesses, highlighting both the resilience and importance of addressing the pressures facing those who are choosing to go at it alone. 🚫 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: High setup costs, complex and disparate regulatory frameworks, and ongoing administrative burdens continue to pose significant challenges for new and existing business owners. To address the problem, we propose a 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧-𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧 to reduce barriers, costs, and difficulties of doing business in Australia. From reducing regulatory complexity to accelerating digital adoption, we want to unlock the full potential of Australian entrepreneurship and improve our collective prosperity. This report is a call to action for policymakers, industry leaders, and anyone involved in, or passionate about supporting our small business ecosystem. Let’s make business easier and more accessible for everyone, together! 🔗 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞: https://lnkd.in/gixc5cUH Andrew Davis Scott Bales Martin Pretty, CFA Cindy Cui Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman The Hon Bruce Billson GAICD Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA) Luke Achterstraat Catherine Donnan FinTech Australia Rehan Mark D'Almeida Julie Collins Sussan Ley Simon Thomsen aj koch Eloise Keating Ricardo Gonçalves Australian FinTech Cameron Dart Nick Bonyhady Gerald Tsang Annelyn Singson #thestateofaustralianbusiness2024 #parpera #australiansmallbusiness #smallbusinessau #entrepreneurship #startup #business
