Stephen Koukoulas' Two Minute Take 💡
House prices The falls in house prices are spreading across Australia - soon prices at the national level will be falling. As things stand, prices in Melbourne, Hobart, Canberra and Darwin are already falling: Based on the high frequency data from Corelogic prices in Sydney have rolled over to the negative and price growth in the boom cities, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane are also slowing. This has implication for wealth, consumer spending and banks. My Two Minute Take #houseprices #tweominutetake

Stephen Koukoulas' Two Minute Take 💡
Hooray! A smidgen of better economic news. While it is not yet time to crack open the sparking wine & some of the readings are from a low base, consumer sentiment is up, business confidence and conditions are up and job ads are up a little. It appears that the lift in sentiment is linked to expectations of interest rate cuts from the RBA - so the RBA needs to deliver if these signs of a turning point are too be sustained. Note also the price data from the NAB survey - business purchase costs, final product prices and labour costs are consistent with inflation being in the target band. The inflation problem has been beaten. All this can turn sour and it will if the RBA does not deliver with rate cuts in the near term. Over to you! But it is great to have some slightly positive news to talk about. My Two Minute Take #RBA #sentiment #twominutetake
