  • "Plan for the unexpected and always ask questions,” is Karlie Collis FIEAust CPEng NER career advice as she celebrates 20 years with Northrop. Interestingly, Karlie’s path to engineering wasn’t clear cut. If it weren’t for her dad, she might have been wielding a plumber’s wrench rather than drafting blueprints. We’re glad she chose engineering. As a Principal since 2019 she’s led many modular school projects in NSW, as well as a range of other residential, commercial and institutional projects. In addition to her work at Northrop, Karlie has been an active representative on Engineers Australia's Structural College Board since 2010, contributing her expertise to the broader engineering community. Also admirable is her dedication to Collaborative Reporting for Safer Structures (CROSS) Australia, lifting the industry and ensuring we all learn from previous mistakes. Karlie is known for her unwavering dedication to mentoring the next generation of engineers. She regularly speaks at universities and schools, encouraging girls and women to pursue careers in engineering with the belief that there are no barriers to their success. Karlie’s infectious positive energy, passion for diversity, and love for bringing people together over cake make her a treasured team member. Congratulations! #EngineeringExcellence #NorthropCelebrates #WomenInEngineering #20YearMilestone

We set a goal, and thanks to your incredible support, we smashed it! 💪 On Friday our Sydney teams took part in Tour de PIF: Tour for Homeless Youth, supporting the incredible work being done by Property Industry Foundation and industry partners to combat youth homelessness. Thanks to the generous contributions of our team, clients and supporters, we raised over $10,000—surpassing our initial $7,000 goal.   Collectively, the event raised over $320,000, which will directly support The Salvation Army Australia South Dowling Haven House project, providing at least 5 safe bedrooms for young Australians facing homelessness.  This cause is close to our hearts, and we're proud to contribute both through fundraising and pro bono engineering services. A huge thank you to everyone who participated and donated. 🚴 Christopher Vosnakis Tatiana Merzliakova Pip Easling Braeden Perrott Robert Furney Nicholas Kosmeier Stephen Maher Hannah Eunice Beltran Charlie Jeavons-Fellows Chris Gavoyannis Mikaila Knezevic Omar Mohd Ali Amey Gadkari Ryan Pike Matthew Keen Elaine Pabustan Mani Harley-Cardoso Jay Tickle Claudio Holzer Lachlan McArthur Miles Thornton   #TourDePIF #YouthHomelessness #CommunityImpact

Can you visualise yourself walking through this beautiful parkland? Jump ahead to 2028 and Laak Boorndap urban garden will be a reality. The Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation is set to redefine the city’s artistic heart and public space. Collaborating with Hassell and Development Victoria, Northrop is proud to contribute to this defining project which will create a vibrant, elevated public parkland in the city centre, forming an integral part of Australia’s largest cultural infrastructure project. From commencing sitewide masterplanning in 2018, Northrop, as part of the Hassell team have been working closely with the broader precinct teams including Reimagining Arts Centre Melbourne and National Gallery Victoria Contemporary, providing structural and civil design solutions for the elevated parkland that links the buildings across the precinct. An 18,000 square metre, biodiverse garden recently announced Laak Boorndap, by Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Elder Aunty Gail Smith, will stand out globally for its remarkable scale, planting density, and climate resilience. The public space will link the venues across the precinct and support community well being and connection. The entire parkland sits above a combination of new and existing elevated structures, bringing challenges in creating the desired biodiversity and varying topography to the garden, for both connection and to genuinely feel like an uninhibited space, whilst working within the capacities of the elevated structure. Integrated stormwater management strategies between all buildings in the precinct is at the heart of the civil design and is focused on the capture, treatment and reuse of water across the whole precinct as greywater and irrigation.   James Sutherland, Melbourne Regional Manager describes the project as “an immensely challenging and rewarding project so far, working with the existing iconic buildings and collaborating with the broader precinct teams. With the naming of the garden and seeing it starting to come to life, at least in imagery makes me excited about what the space will become." This project forms part of the wider Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation which will deliver: • The Fox: NGV Contemporary – a new gallery dedicated to art and design • Upgrades to Arts Centre Melbourne’s Theatres Building • A new 18,000 square metre urban garden Northrop are proud to be both part of the Hassell team delivering Laak Boorndap and part of the Development Victoria team delivering the precinct wide services. We can’t wait to see this immersion of nature, art and performance come to life. 🔗 Discover more: https://lnkd.in/gmKida73    🖼 Imagery by Darcstudio   📍 Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country Hassell | Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporation (MAP Co) | Development Victoria #MelbourneArtsPrecinct #UrbanTransformation #NorthropEngineering #StructuralEngineering #CivilEngineering

  • Let us do the stressing for you 💪 We’re proud to have provided Structural engineering for Greenland Australia Arbor at Park Sydney, including the detailed design of all post-tensioned slabs. By keeping PT design in-house, we reduced project delivery timelines, maximised material efficiency and optimised the structure to meet the unique needs of this 8-storey development which topped out yesterday.  Our in-house post-tensioning capability streamlined our ability to declare the structural design under the new DBPA, fully coordinating the slabs under one roof.   If you would like to chat about how PT Design can enhance your next development, reach out to our resident expert Braeden Perrott at [email protected] Alliance Project Group | TURNER STUDIO #Northrop #PostTensioning #UrbanRevitalisation #StructuralEngineering #DBPA

  • Northrop is proud to be nominated for the CIBSE ANZ Young Engineers Awards in recognition of our unique graduate program. Our structured approach to personal development is directly aligned to the achievement of Chartership and provides a detailed pathway of 150 hours of training over an individual's initial period at Northrop, as well as support to participate in getting involved in the broader industry, through a membership of an industry organisation and participation in community building activities. We support all employees with the selection of a mentor and buddy to support their development both technically and socially. Keep an eye out for our 2026 graduate program opening in February 2025. We also promote ongoing graduate opportunities throughout the year as they arise.

  • Northrop and Coordinated Engineering Services have teamed up on several projects in Tasmania supporting each other’s development and vision of sustainable engineering. “We were looking to partner with an organisation that offered multi-disciplinary engineering capability, but just as important for the team was to work with an organisation that shared similar values. Partnering with Northrop was our number one choice” said Sharon Bugg, Managing Director, Coordinated Engineering Services (CES). This collaboration has resulted in joint structural projects on Launceston General Hospital carpark, Rose Lane Apartments, Kings Meadows Community Health Centre and Macquarie Place Apartments. • Gone are the days of the humble demountable. Proud to share our role in the Melonba Educational Campus, a landmark project in Marsden Park and one of the largest school developments ever undertaken by School Infrastructure NSW. We closely collaborated with NBRS and are working alongside Richard Crookes Constructions, navigating structural and environmental challenges across the 6ha site and ensuring that this state-of-the-art campus will be ready for students by Term 1, 2025. Sustainability was key, and we are happy to have contributed to the campus achieving a 5-Star Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia. ♻️ A special mention goes to the streamlined stormwater management solution, developed in partnership with Ocean Protect , which met Blacktown City Council stringent requirements while safeguarding the environment. Additionally, our façade team’s waterproofing strategy ensures the longevity of this incredible facility. We can't wait to see the lasting impact this campus will have on the local area! • "No matter how sophisticated our calculations and documents are, we still need to work with people to get our projects built. That is the most challenging and rewarding part of the job,” shared Northrop’s Joe O'Brien at the Companies and Canapes event run by QUT (Queensland University of Technology) Civil Engineering Student Society (CESS). As gold sponsors of the CESS, our Northrop team enjoyed sharing valuable advice to students on evaluating team culture, enhancing interview diversity and navigating the complexities of the construction industry. Alex De Andrade further showcased the dynamic nature of civil engineering at Northrop, from technical reporting and project management, to leading major developments. He underlined that strong relationships are key to delivering quality work on impactful projects. A big thank you to CESS and QUT for a fantastic event where we could get to know the next generation of engineers.
