Amplifying the voice of local government in national housing matters! Our councillors are seeking support to have the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) included in the Housing and Homelessness Ministerial Council. It’s one of the key motions put forward by Noosa to be debated at the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) Conference in October. Noosa has also established an informal alliance with like-minded councils from New South Wales and Victoria to further lobby government for change and to have a say in housing solutions. Situated at the northern tip of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Noosa Shire covers an area of 871 square kilometres and is home to more than 54,000 people. The Traditional Owners and original custodians of the land were the Kabi Kabi / Gubbi Gubbi people. Noosa Shire Council was re-established as a local government on January 1, 2014. It followed a hard-fought community campaign over several years to restore its shire following the amalgamation of three sunshine coast councils in 2008. Noosa Shire has an economy that is diversifying beyond a thriving tourism industry. It is recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere and has a proud history of preserving its natural environment. Thirty five percent of the Shire is protected as either national park, reserve or conservation area.

A round of a-paws is in order for our team who made the beach nourishment and reprofiling works at Noosa Dog Beach a howling success! Hall partnered with Noosa Council to restore the much-loved beach for Noosa’s residents and their four-legged friends, constructing two sand plugs to redirect water away from the shoreline and mitigate erosion for years to come. Plus, the crew dredged 85,000m3 of sand to renourish the beach and created a safer and more easily navigable channel between Noosa River and the river mouth for boaties.
