nib employees have voted for their favourite charities to receive one of nib foundation’s $5,000 Good Cause Grants. These grants support the health and wellbeing of the communities where we live and work. This year, we received over 55 nominations and almost 1,000 votes from our employees based in Australia, New Zealand, and internationally. Burn Support Group in New Zealand is one of this year’s six worthy Good Cause Grants recipients, nominated by Health Provider Engagement Lead, Tayla Henry. Tayla shared her reasons for nominating this cause:. “I advocated for Camp Awhi at Burn Support Group to receive the Good Cause Grant because it offers a transformative experience for young burn survivors. As a support person at the camp, I've seen firsthand how these kids grow in confidence, learn new skills, and form meaningful connections in a nurturing environment. This camp is a vital resource that helps them embrace life with joy and resilience.” Read Tayla’s story and meet our Good Cause Grant recipients 👇💚 #lifeatnib

To mark World No Tobacco Day, we’ve teamed up with Life Ed NSW/ACT to release important new data which reveals students’ perceptions of vaping. The survey of more than 13,000 teens across NSW and WA found an increasing number of secondary school students feel pressure to vape. 50% thought their classmates vaped every week and 20% every month, when in reality 72% of students said they had never vaped. Despite this, 25% of students saying they felt they were being pressured to vape, compared to 20% last year. This gap between perception and reality provides an early intervention opportunity which is why nib foundation is partnering with Life Ed. We know parents are the key to ensuring our next generation makes healthier choices. New video resources released by Life Ed this week are designed to guide parents on how to have meaningful conversations with their dependents about the potential harms of vaping. The new resources offer: - Information on the health impacts and laws of vaping - Tips for recognising and addressing nicotine addiction - Strategies for having meaningful and positive conversations with young people - Guidance on where to find additional support and services Click below for more information 👇 https://lnkd.in/gp7Nh_Pj #lifeatnib #vaping #lifeeducation #WorldNoTobaccoDay #WNTD

For the second year, Butterfly Foundation’s Body Kind Youth Survey (BKYS) has revealed the concerning status of body image among young people in Australia. Supported by nib foundation, the findings show that over half of the 12 –18-year old survey respondents are dissatisfied with how their body looks, up 11% from 2022 results. This has far reaching and significant impact, with over third of young people saying it had stopped them from physical activity or playing a sport. The survey underscores the need for prevention and early intervention, including more comprehensive body image education and in-school support.
