As the world comes together for the Olympic Games, we at Newmont are excited to celebrate this global event that exemplifies excellence, unity, and the spirit of competition. Did you know that gold plays a crucial role in the Olympics? Here are some fun facts to kick off the festivities: 🏆 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗿𝘆: The gold medals awarded to Olympians contain at least 6 grams of pure gold, symbolizing the pinnacle of achievement and hard work. While they are primarily made of silver, it's the gold coating that makes them shine. 🥇 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗕𝗶𝘁𝗲: Winning athletes are often photographed biting their medals - this is based on the ancient practice of biting into gold to test its purity and authenticity! 🔍 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱: Gold has been used in Olympic medals since the 1904 St. Louis Games. The tradition of awarding gold, silver, and bronze medals started in 1904 and continues to this day. ⚒ 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀: Gold, along with other mined minerals, is essential in the construction of stadiums, arenas, and other Olympic infrastructure, providing the foundation for athletes to achieve their dreams. 📟 𝗚𝗮𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀: Have you ever wondered what makes the touchpad sensors in swimming, the helmet-mounted micro cameras in cycling, the force plates in gymnastics, and the EPIRB (Emergency position indicating radio beacon) in snow sports work? It’s 𝘨𝘰𝘭𝘥🌟 This precious metal is behind many of the gadgets that help athletes shine and fans cheer. As the world’s largest gold producer, Newmont is proud to contribute to the magic of the Olympics through our work in mining gold, copper, and other metals. As we watch the games unfold, let's celebrate the remarkable achievements of athletes and the vital role that mining plays in making these moments possible. #OlympicGames #Gold #Newmont #MiningMatters #GlobalUnity #Sportsmanship #Olympics2024

Newmont’s Boddington team got their hands dirty recently and joined local residents and Boddington District High School students to plant more than 2,000 seedlings as part of the annual Tunbridge Gully Planting Day.   Organised by the Peel Harvey Catchment Council, the event aims to protect and rehabilitate local water catchments by planting native sedges and trees along foreshore areas. The weed control and planting efforts are ongoing each year, with less and less Juncus acutus (spiny rush) and improved survival rates of the native species that have been planted.   The latest effort adds to the more than 30,000 trees and sedges planted since 2016!   Newmont is proud to partner with local groups to help achieve our purpose of creating value and improving lives through sustainable and responsible mining.

Congratulations to Warlpiri Education and Training Trust (WETT) for winning the Education category at this week’s 2024 National NAIDOC Awards. Warlpiri teachers and traditional owners of Newmont’s Tanami gold mine site set up WETT in 2005 to use royalties from the mine to improve education and training outcomes for Warlpiri people in the Tanami Desert. For almost 20 years, WETT has invested more than $57 million to support Warlpiri people across its five education program areas - children and families; language and culture in schools; youth development; secondary school support; and learning community centres. Newmont has forged a close partnership with the Warlpiri people to operate at Tanami and is committed to delivering benefits across the region in line with Warlpiri aspirations and the pillars of education, employment and voice (governance and self-determination). #NAIDOC2024 #NAIDOCWeek #BlakLoudProud
