Congratulations to CSIRO, bringing some of the world's most powerful computing to Australia through the development of the Virga high-performance computing cluster. Based in Canberra’s CDC Hume Data Centre, Virga includes state of the art Dell PowerEdge XE9640 servers, NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPU accelerator. It's the first deployment of its kind in Australia, designed to optimise AI workflows while being power-efficient using direct liquid cooling. As the advancement of AI technologies accelerates, Professor Elanor Huntington shares that researchers can leverage the machine learning techniques to drive scientific advancements, such as 'developing world-leading flexible printed solar panels, predicting fires, measuring wheat crops and developing vaccines, just to name a few'. The Virga cluster features: - NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPU accelerators to support deep learning, machine learning and AI - 94GB of high-bandwidth memory per GPU - Transformer Engine - significantly speeds up AI performance and capabilities and helps train large models within days or even hours - 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors - hybrid direct liquid cooling to reduce the need for energy intensive air cooling. This investment contributes to the development of sovereign AI capability and technology. 👋 Hi, from our new home! The National AI Centre (NAIC), is in its first week at the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. Following the 2024-25 Budget decision to move NAIC from CSIRO to DISR, NAIC becomes the Commonwealth’s flagship organisation for enabling industry engagement on AI, and driving new models of collaboration among researchers, academics and industry. We are both excited and thankful. Excited because of this opportunity to create greater impact and bring voices from across Australia closer to government’s AI strategy. Thankful because so many at CSIRO's Data61 have supported us to grow to this level of impact and maturity. We will continue our core focus: - supporting AI adoption for small and medium businesses by addressing barriers and challenges - growing an AI industry and convening the AI ecosystem - uplifting safe and responsible AI practice. We will shortly resume our regular online programming. Until then, please be patient with us as we’re doing exciting things including setting up new laptops, onboarding training and getting building security. Empathetic AI, fresh off their AI Sprint win, is set to debut their AI-powered tax assistant (Luna) for SMEs this week: https://bit.ly/45GeMlP 🦾 Speaking to SmartCompany's Tegan Jones, Founder and CEO Angela Shi said Luna was inspired by her struggles as a CFO to streamline tax optimisation across different jurisdictions. “Luna can transform complex tax scenarios, which traditionally took weeks to analyse, into actionable insights in seconds. It’s a game-changer for tax professionals,” Angela Shi told SmartCompany. As reported by SmartCompany, Luna continuously scans the ATO’s legal database for the latest case rulings and updates. This allows it to provide up-to-date answers to tax-related queries, complete with references to relevant legislation and historical cases.
