Compensation or support programs for small businesses would be invaluable,” said Charmagne and Colin, who run their pool and spa business Country Rubber and Foam in Tamworth. Red tape, hiring and training staff, and cyber security threats topped the list of things keeping small businesses up at night, according to NAB’s Backing our Businesses: Unlocking growth for small and medium enterprises report. “Small businesses are the engine room of our economy, but they’re at risk of stalling unless we do something about it,” NAB Group CEO Andrew Irvine said. Red tape, hiring and training staff and cyber security threats topped the list of things keeping small businesses up at night, according to NAB’s Behind our Businesses: Unlocking growth for small and medium enterprises report, released today. Accessing capital, supply chains and digitisation and AI rounded out the list of roadblocks NAB’s small business customers and bankers identified as part of the research. Fresh thinking was needed to remove barriers, said Mr Irvine. “Small businesses can’t do this on their own – and they shouldn’t be expected to. They need banks, governments and industry groups to come together and have their backs.” Read more about the report and its recommendations here: https://lnkd.in/gdxZBWqH

Another amazing result from yesterday’s nabtrade Charity Trading Day - thank you to everyone who made a trade in support. We raised $270,000 for NAB Foundation major partner Disaster Relief Australia to invest funds in resilience projects that help Australian communities prepare for disaster. Disaster Relief Australia Chief Executive Officer David Smith said that the money raised will enable DRA to help communities proactively prepare for the unexpected and facilitate up to four preparedness ‘big map’ exercises in at-risk communities around the country. “These preparedness sessions will bring together and help vulnerable communities identify risks, develop disaster management strategies, and build their capability to face future challenges,” said Mr Smith. “Together, community leaders, local residents, and emergency response agencies will walk a large aerial map to simulate and share stories about the impact that fires, floods and other disasters can have. “The support of our volunteers and partners enables us to do the work we do, and we are proud of our ongoing alliance with NAB Foundation. We have a shared commitment to strengthening Australian communities. Through both resilience and recovery work, we are helping people on some of their toughest days move towards better ones.”
