Today is Allied Health Professions Day 🎉 This year's theme ‘Stronger Together’, highlights the vital role that allied health professionals play in keeping people in our communities healthy and well. Allied health describes a wide range of professions who work alongside other health professionals, such as GPs and nurses, to provide supportive care and therapy that centres on an individual. In Victoria, allied health incorporates 27 professions including dietetics, physiotherapy, podiatry and psychology, and more than 42,500 practitioners, according to the state Department of Health. They can help to assess, diagnose, prevent and manage a range of health conditions for people living with disability, injury, chronic conditions, psychosocial issues or in aged care. Thank you to all allied health professionals for the work you do 🙏 #AHPsDay2024 #StrongerTogether

The health and wellbeing of First Nations Peoples living in our catchment is a key priority for Murray PHN. On this, the first anniversary of the failed Voice referendum, we acknowledge today may be a time of sorrow for many Aboriginal communities who felt deeply the lack of acceptance by other Australians. As we move as a society towards Reconciliation, Murray PHN continues to work to improve the health of First Nations people and to help Close The Gap in their health outcomes. For 24/7 crisis support run by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, call 13YARN (13 92 76). The following video was released the day after the referendum, testifying to the strength of Aboriginal Community: https://lnkd.in/gnjnVwqw

The 'A journey into Sorry Business' booklet provides free, easy-to-read information for Aboriginal people in need of palliative care and their carers. It supports Aboriginal people to share their wishes and preferences for their end-of-life care through ‘sorry business’ - cultural practices and protocols associated with death. The resource has been developed to provide culturally appropriate, respectful and mindful information to encourage Aboriginal people to yarn about their rights, wishes and how to plan ahead when circumstances change through their lives. Albury Wodonga Aboriginal Health Service (AWAHS) partnered with Murray PHN to co-develop the booklet, with input from Community members from Wiradjuri, Yorta Yorta, Waveroo and Duduroa Countries, the lands the booklet encompasses. To download the booklet, visit: https://lnkd.in/gDFTvg4x For support, call 13 Yarn on 13 92 76.
