Boldly go where no Mo has gone before 👣 As part of our US Adventure Series, these legendary groups took on a physical and mental challenge in support of Movember. One group ventured up Mount Kilimanjaro, climbing a whopping 45 miles over 8 days. While our other set of adventurers trekked through the Andes for 6 days – with a final stop at the top of Machu Picchu. A huge thank you to Embark Exploration Co. for guiding our teams in the right direction, and to these great brands for supplying us with the gear: Oars Alps and Fabletics. Movember is the leading charity changing the face of men’s health on a global scale.
About us
Since 2003, Movember has built a global men’s health movement, funding more than 1,300 projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men. Movember has taken on three of the biggest health issues affecting men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide. Movember has: ▪ Invested almost $350 million in over 600 biomedical research projects, focusing on prostate and testicular cancer. ▪ Funded 4 prostate cancer registries, with over 200,000 men enrolled from 23 countries. ▪ Supported interventions designed to assist and guide men through the prostate cancer journey, offering them resources and information so that they are empowered to make their own decisions, manage symptoms and share lived experiences. ▪ Since taking on mental health and suicide as a cause area in 2006, Movember has united experts, funded bold new approaches and embraced fresh perspectives. We’ve focused on prevention, early intervention, and health promotion through a male lens. Movember is for everyone, not just for men. We are a health movement and our invitation to take part is open to everyone. We champion healthcare that is sensitive to the needs of everyone, including men, so that everyone benefits. And we have a strong focus on how improving men's health can have a profoundly positive impact on women, families, and society as a whole. But we lead the charge in encouraging men to adopt healthy behaviours, challenging health systems and confronting gender norms to reduce health inequalities and save more lives. Scotland has the highest rates of premature mortality among men in the UK - the average rate is 26% higher in Scottish constituencies. Men in the least deprived 10% of areas lived on average 14 years longer than those in the most deprived areas. I was on The Nine on BBC Scotland last night talking about our new men's health report and calling for the Scottish government to deliver a men's Health plan (trying to be do my best impersonation of Amy O'Connor who couldn't make it!).

We're proud to support the eSafety Commissioner's new report on young men's online experiences, highlighting the crucial role of digital spaces in shaping identity and community. This collaborative research, featuring insights from experts including Professor Simon Rice, Global Director of Movember Institute of Men’s Health, underscores the need for collective action to ensure these environments foster healthy, respectful models of manhood. Let's work together to promote online safety and positive engagement for young men.
Our new report explores the influences and motivations that shape and inform young men's online experiences 📱 A collaboration with Deakin University and QUT (Queensland University of Technology), these insights help us understand how to support young men in online spaces in ways that have meaningful impact and are relevant to them. The study confirmed online environments are a powerful source of community, acceptance and friendships for young men. However, there was also a feeling of being uncertain about how to express their identity and place in the world. These are complex societal issues. There's a collective responsibility to help young men answer important questions about what constitutes healthy, respectful models of manhood and masculinity. 💡 eSafety is consulting with expert practitioners to translate these insights into relevant online safety advice, including Daniel Principe, Movember, R4Respect, Richie Hardcore, The Man Cave and The Men's Project (Jesuit Social Services). 👨👩👦👩🏫 The research shows many young men are critical consumers of what they see online. We want parents, carers and educators to help boys, tweens and teens hone these critical reasoning skills and instil a healthy sense of online agency and responsibility. We know prevention is the best defence against online harms. Visit eSafety.gov.au for guidance. 👩💼👨💻 Tech companies also need to be more accountable for user safety. Recommender algorithms can result in young people being served increasingly damaging content. This can erode respect for oneself and others, as well as perpetuate ideas rooted in misogyny. We need industry to take a proactive #SafetyByDesign approach, including actively preventing young men from being drawn into an endless spiral of harmful echo chambers. Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in Australia, with 1 in 5 men receiving a prostate cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. We're teaming up with SAiGENCI at The University of Adelaide to create a landmark database that will help researchers develop strategies for clinicians to personalise decisions about prostate cancer care. The new integrated database will harness the power of innovative technologies like AI and machine learning, to analyse existing clinical trial data obtained from thousands of men worldwide. “This cutting-edge technology represents a monumental leap in prostate cancer research. Allowing us to gather prostate cancer data from around the world and consolidate it in a single repository. By collecting and analysing biomarkers, we can unlock trends, enhance diagnostic pathways and improve the overall management and treatment of the disease. We are proud to see such revolutionary research being conducted here in Australia, and hope that it will play a role in minimising the global burden of prostate cancer in the future.” - Sarah Weller, Movember Global Director of Prostate Cancer. Now, Lauren wants to give back to that community. With a couple marathons under her belt and countless conversations started about men’s health, Lauren’s all about taking every opportunity to encourage others to advocate for their health - “the ripple effects that come from a dollar or a conversation make such a difference in someone’s life down the road".
