Creating optimism in the lives of people with disabilities or facing disadvantage
About us
Making Waves Foundation exists to offer opportunities to people facing disability or disadvantage. Using sailing as a tool, MWF regularly acts as a catalyst for change, where individuals develop a more optimistic outlook and enjoy personal growth and improved life outcomes. Since its inception in 1994, MWF has taken more than 42,000 people sailing, and competed in 18 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Races. Since 2003, MWF has also held the world record for the non-stop and unassisted circumnavigation of Australia. MWF relies on a platform of volunteers to run its programs. Through participation, volunteers raise their life satisfaction and well-being while learning new skills and giving back to society. MWF's programs are inclusive, supportive and challenging. The focus is on working as a team to find solutions to problems. Regular participation and connection with our mentors raises self-esteem and self-confidence, and improves life skills. Want to Create Optimism? You can make change happen by: * Volunteering your time * Making a donation * Buying a boat in our annual Making Waves Regatta * Asking us about sponsorship opportunities

⚓ ROLEX Sydney Hobart Yacht Race Team to be announced soon! (with 50% of our crew living with a disability) ⚓Our team are currently sailing for disability in their first qualifier for the 2024 race - the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race ⚓Watch the livestream here: https://lnkd.in/gVeizvNN ⚓ See the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia's ‘Yacht Tracker’ for MWF Kayle to track the race! ⚓Head to the link in bio to learn more about the Making Waves Foundation www.MakingWaves.au ⛵️Race Update! Day 2 ‘After a frustratingly slow exit of the Harbour MWF Kayle is enjoying a glorious morning surfing in 20-25 knot south-westerly off Tuncurry. So far Grant Healy holds the speed record of a cracking 19.4 knots down a wave. Skipper John Whitfield is satisfied with our progress and says last night’s efforts by the crew to keep boat safe were “good training” for the Rolex Sydney Hobart.’ @officialrolexsydneyhobart ⛵️Race Update! Day 3 'We have passed Cape Byron and have 33 nautical miles to go to the finish. The sun is out, the wind is still a south-westerly but easing as we close on the line. It’s been bumpy but a fast, awesome ride up the coast and we are looking forward to seeing everyone on the dock at Southport.’ Skipper John Whitfeld #MWFKayle #Tracking #sailingfordisability
