Congratulations Estelle Shulman and Jessica Hunt on being awarded the Lycopodium Women in Mechanical Engineering Scholarship for 2024. The two-year scholarship, awarded for the first time this year, was established as part of our commitment to providing opportunities that foster the view of engineering as a career choice for women. We look forward to supporting Estelle and Jessica as they complete their degree in Mechanical Engineering at Curtin University, with the opportunity to build on their learning experience in the practical environment provided by Lycopodium, including mentoring and hands-on engagement with live projects.

Conducting a comprehensive trade-off study is an expected part of the due diligence process in mineral processing circuit design. For a large scale operation processing medium to hard ore at high tonnes, the comparison between HPGR and SAG milling is a compulsory part of the trade-off study. Which is the best option, and what is the best way to assess that thoroughly to make sure of the right outcome? Generally, the HPGR option is the winner for overall energy efficiency and operating costs. However, there are four main areas to review before a final recommendation can be made. Review the CEEC International Medal winning case study here: https://lnkd.in/gPjz2V6Z For more information on how OMC can help with trade-off study requirements or design review capabilities, please visit us here: www.orway.com.au #HPGR #SAGMILLING

In recognition of NAIDOC Week, we stand together to celebrate and acknowledge the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We are proud of our long-standing partnerships with Murlpirrmarra Connection and the Clontarf Foundation, and this year we welcome Roley Lewis, a Clontarf Alumni member, who is the inaugural recipient of our Chairman’s Scholarship, a design scholarship that will support Roley through his TAFE studies, with the opportunity to then join Lycopodium as a Junior Designer.

As a project engineer, I participate in the evolution of a project from its conceptual stage through to commissioning. I was fortunate enough to see my last project from the ground up, on site in Senegal, which was an enlightening experience. Having a holistic understanding of the process enables me to tackle tasks more effectively and understand how each decision or action can influence other aspects of the project. For me, the best part about working at Lycopodium is that there is always someone to provide you with insight and guidance. Everyone is willing to help and provide their support. Outside of work, I am a netball fanatic. I coach at club and association levels, play myself, umpire, and am an assistant coaching coordinator at club level. I love being able to participate and mentor the next generation and see them grow into amazing people. Linton Jaffe joined Lycopodium as a graduate engineer more than 25 years ago, growing his career to today being a Lead Process Engineer based in our Melbourne office. Throughout the years, Linton has had the opportunity to hone his expertise in process engineering design across a range of specialised areas, including Hazardous Areas, Pharmaceutical / Clean Design and Functional Safety. Linton has enjoyed the challenges of working on different and varied projects, applying similar design principles to widely different projects and clients, from basic chemicals to refined and regulated pharmaceuticals and design for hazardous or toxic chemicals. And not just the design on paper (or on screen) but seeing these projects through fabrication and installation and more interestingly, actually commissioning the plant through to final products and seeing the “fruits of our design”, both within Australia and internationally. When not labouring away behind a computer screen, Linton can be found on the golf course working on his handicap, both at his local course or enjoying the pristine (and warmer) golf courses in Thailand. Our Emerging Leaders Program, facilitated by ACP Consulting Group, sees our future leaders participate in a series of in-person and virtual workshops and group coaching sessions to support the development of their leadership skills. Initially launched across our Australian offices in July 2022, the 2023/2024 curriculum included participants from our Australian and international offices, including Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, Newcastle, Manila, Toronto, Cape Town and Botswana. Providing the opportunity to further strengthen the camaraderie amongst the group, all participants came together recently in Perth for their final sessions, sharing with each other key insights of their development journey, with a week of workshops and activities aimed at putting into practice their learnings. Congratulations to each of our emerging leaders who participated in the 2023/2024 program.
