Congratulations to our customer, AGL, whose Broken Hill Large-Scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project has completed commissioning and is in full operation as of last week!    Achieving this important milestone is the final stage of project delivery, and means the project now continues to support the reliable supply of electricity to the Broken Hill community by providing efficient grid support for the region, as well as storage and firming capacity to the National Energy Market.    The 50MW / 50MWh lithium-ion BESS is connected to the nearby Transgrid Broken Hill substation via a 22 kV underground cable connecting to the 22 kV busbar at the substation.    Well done to the teams who worked on this, and congrats to AGL! 👏

🌿 Providing care in partnership with SONA 🌿 We are proud to announce our partnership with SONA, a local wildlife rescue organisation, as part of the Snowy 2.0 Transmission Connection Project. This collaboration is a crucial step in our environmental risk mitigation strategy, ensuring that the rich biodiversity of Kosciuszko National Park is protected throughout the duration of our work. As we carry out this significant infrastructure project, our commitment to safeguarding wildlife is paramount. Any animals identified on site or injured will be promptly reported to SONA, who will provide expert care. We are especially vigilant in monitoring native species like the Sooty Owl, Masked Owl, Squirrel Glider, and Booroolong Frog. Our teams are also trained to respond to wildlife strikes on the roads, ensuring that any young or injured animals are rescued and handed over to SONA for rehabilitation. Peter Doherty, HSE Business Partner at Transgrid, shares, "We recognise the importance of protecting wildlife as we develop essential infrastructure and are committed to working closely with SONA to mitigate risks and support their vital work." Together, we're not just building infrastructure; we're also ensuring that the precious wildlife in this unique environment continues to thrive. 🦉🐸🌲 #Lumea #SONA #WildlifeProtection #EnvironmentalSustainability UGL

Safety first at MREH 🦺   Recently, the Safety and Sustainability Committee visited the Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub (MREH), a 600MW BESS being constructed near Melton by Equis Australia and SEC Victoria.   The site was selected by the Transgrid Group Board as part of our commitment to safety and sustainability, and was attended by delegates from Lumea, Transgrid and the Transgrid Group Board.   The primary function of the Committee is to support and advise the Board in fulfilling its obligations to Health, Safety and the Environment, and the tour did not disappoint, as it was evident on tour that safety protocols are at the forefront of the works being undertaken at MREH.     The visit included a tour of the MREH construction site, which is expected to power up to 200,000 Victorian homes in the evening peak when fully operational in late 2025.   The Committee also toured the Deer Park Substation which is being delivered separately by Lumea and Transgrid.

Creating momentum for a clean energy future starts with the self 🏃 Some of our Lumea and Transgrid teams were concerning themselves with a very different type of energy at the weekend, as they completed the #City2Surf fun run! Over 60 Transgrid Group people, running under the team name ‘Kilowatt Krew,’ completed the 14km course under perfect conditions in Sydney yesterday. Running together promotes physical and mental wellbeing, as well as teamwork and resilient mindsets. Not to mention having fun along the way! Well done to the runners and to team leaders Ariel Obrero, MAIPM and Christiaan Swanepoel for organising!

Big milestone at Eraring! 🏗️   Over at Eraring Power Station last week we welcomed the arrival of the first of two 330kv transformers onsite.   Each transformer weighs a whopping 210 tonnes. The project, being delivered for client Origin Energy, is well over halfway. Special thanks to Tadros B., Saurabh Sonje, Worrell Jacinto, Louis Dolores, Patricia Ella Evangelista & Enerven for achieving this important milestone. We are looking forward to the arrival of the second transformer soon!

Congratulations to the teams working on the 440 MWp Culcairn Solar Farm where civil works have now commenced, marking a critical milestone. Our Project Sponsor Roshan Venkat and Project Manager John Granger visited the site this week and were impressed at the exceptional focus on #safety and the speed at which the site is coming together, achieved through excellent collaboration and communication with partners. Lumea is proud to support our customer Neoen Australia in reaching their target of as it aims to achieve 5GW of renewable energy by 2025, by helping connect its solar farm to the grid as seamlessly as possible. Lumea with delivery partner Transgrid, are constructing a 330kV switching station that forms part of the connection works with energisation planned for June 2025. #creatingmomentum #renewables #renewableenergy

How do you manage the energy trilemma? 🤔 This was the question posed by the panel that Lumea EGM Craig Stallan spoke on at The Australian Energy Nation Forum this morning. Speaking of balancing the demands for energy security, equity and sustainability, Craig said, “We are moving in the right direction. Delivering transmission and connecting renewables at pace will be key to delivering the lowest cost energy for 2030. We need to respect and listen to the local communities and we need to maintain certainty and consistency to deliver on the promise of a clean energy future.” #EnergyNation #TheEnergyTrilemma #SocialLicense #EnergySecurity #Sustainability
