Last night, 405 individuals (including these nine women from our LMG team and Loan Market network) participated in The Forgotten Women Live Like Her Challenge. They spent the night living in their cars to raise money towards The Forgotten Women’s mission to provide suitable housing for women over 55 experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Feedback this morning was that sleep was minimal, and the experience was intimidating, and that was only one night. In greater Brisbane alone, over 700 women over 55 face hardships. Referred to as the hidden homeless, these women may be living in cars, couch surfing, or facing threats of violence, among other challenges. Helping grow businesses. Advocate for a competitive mortgage market. Fighting for a fair go for customers.
Yesterday, some of the big bank CEOs were in Canberra, taking aim at broker pay and claiming brokers don’t have 'guardrails' like the banks. But here’s what they’re not saying: brokers are held to a Best Interest Duty - a legal obligation to put clients first every time. Bankers don’t have to meet that standard; their legal obligation is to act in their employer's best interest, which was even in their own words. Let’s not forget, banks often pay referrers almost as much upfront as they pay brokers, without clawbacks, Best Interest Duty, or accountability - and that’s on top of a banker’s salary. An issue that was front and centre in the Royal Commission. Despite brokers handling 75% of all new home loans, AFCA data has shown that complaints against brokers are nominal and represent just 0.3% of all complaints*. Meanwhile, banks are lifting bonus caps back to 80%, despite the Royal Commission’s clear findings on how these incentives led to poor outcomes. It’s not about capping pay - it’s about who you’re working for. Brokers are legally bound to put clients first. Banks are not. And that sums up the difference. Let’s keep raising the bar, putting clients first and delivering the best outcomes for Aussie homeowners, every time. *based on FY23 AFCA data #brokersworkforyou #TransparencyMatters #IndustryInsights Annie Kane Antony Field Dien Le The Adviser Magazine Broker Daily Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia (MFAA) FBAA Mortgage Professional Australia
