We're excited to announce the completion of Melbourne Quarter Tower, a prominent new landmark in Melbourne CBD. Positioned directly opposite Southern Cross Station, this 34-storey marvel features: 🏢 Nearly 70,000 m² of PCA Premium Grade office space 🛍️ 3,500 m² of retail space 🚗 2,000 m² of car parking The LCI Team is proud to have provided the mechanical, electrical, ICT, security, and specialist lighting design services for this city-shaping project. Notably, we collaborated with Lendlease to bring their vision of a curvilinear roof form to life, making a bold statement on Melbourne’s skyline. Design Challenges: 💡 The tower’s signature curvilinear roof posed a unique mechanical design challenge. Our engineers creatively installed cooling towers in a confined area, now serving the Melbourne Quarter Tower and neighboring buildings. 💡 The Specialist Lighting team designed innovative solutions for the cascading rooftop floorplates on the top floors, featuring a curved ceiling inspired by local road arcs. In collaboration with Woods Bagot, we ensured the lighting perfectly complements the aesthetics while optimising the space for tenants. A huge shoutout to Lendlease and all our partners for their vision and cooperation in bringing this iconic project to life. #MelbourneQuarterTower #SustainableDesign #CommercialRealEstate #LCIConsultants #Lendlease #MelbourneCBD

Great news for the Tweed-Byron Region community on the opening of their new Tweed Valley Hospital. Spanning 71,000 sqm this new facility is designed to meet the demands of a growing population, offering a wide range of medical services and support facilities. The required services covered areas from emergency services to maternity care, operating theatres and recovery, and from oncology to rehabilitation, equipping the hospital to provide comprehensive medical and support services. This includes a rooftop helipad and extensive parking, ensuring accessibility and readiness for all situations. A special shout out to our LCI team for their ongoing commitment to sustainable design. This is evident in our efforts to achieve 48 points in Health Infrastructure NSW's ESD Scorecard rating; 3 points more than the required 45 points. During the schematic design phase of the project, LCI was actively involved and later conducted a thorough peer review during the design development phase. We provided mechanical, medical gas, and electrical services, focusing on innovative solutions for medical gas and pneumatic tube systems, as well as communications and security systems to enhance safety and operational efficiency. This week, our ESD Principal, Matt Williams, presented at the AIRAH NSW - Netzero - HVAC&R panel discussion in Sydney. The event brought together experts from the construction, design consultancy, and manufacturing sectors to discuss the challenges and opportunities for the HVAC&R industry in achieving the net zero goals of its customers.   The discussion raised some important questions: ❓ What works best, Incentives or penalties? ❓ Is Electrification more important than Energy Efficiency? ❓ If Operational energy is easier to zero out than embodied carbon but its taken us decades to get to this point, how much longer do we have to zero out embodied carbon? ❓ If we prioritise Refrigerants to be low in Global Warming Potential, is it acceptable to increase their flammability? ❓ How long will it really take to transition away from Gas in the built environment? ❓ Is the action going to be sustainability-driven or financially driven? ❓ How can we leverage the competitiveness of our clients to achieve higher and higher star ratings? ❓ Building Reuse is a big term; do we mean Retrofit, Refurbishment or Adaptive Re-use? ❓ If HVAC&R equipment is made to last 20 years or more, how sustainable is it to replace it sooner, just to meet zero targets?   At LCI, we have the expertise to address all your questions. With extensive experience in designing and retrofitting for electrification, we ensure buildings achieve their intended energy efficiency and low carbon goals. Let us support you on your Net Zero journey. Reach out to us today!   #NetZero #Sustainability #HVACR #AIRAH #GreenBuilding #EnergyEfficiency #CommercialBuildings

The Green Building Council of Australia launched an update to its Responsible Products Program in late 2023 and LCI Consultants took the opportunity to delve deep into the sustainability practices of our suppliers and technology providers. In our white paper, we explore the intricate network of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and vertical transport systems that form the backbone of modern buildings. While these systems are hidden behind walls and floors, their impact on sustainability is significant. Our research, involving nearly 50 suppliers, highlights the urgent need to optimise building systems not just for operational efficiency but also to address resource consumption, environmental impact, and carbon emissions. Key findings include: 📗 The challenges suppliers face in achieving sustainability certifications. 📗 The importance of selecting eco-friendly materials and adopting sustainable manufacturing practices. 📗 Recommendations for improving energy efficiency, waste management, and public disclosure. Download our white paper and join us in advancing sustainable building practices. Need guidance on these topics? Last week, CIBSE YEN held our Aspirational Engineers event, celebrating International Women in Engineering Day with an insightful panel! We had three exceptional leaders in the building services industry on the panel, Cynthia Farah, Manasa Marasani, and Preeti Chandak, who all shared their incredible journeys in engineering and careers. They all presented on a key project they were proud of, discussed the challenges they've overcome throughout their career, and offered invaluable advice and tips for those starting their careers. We would like to say a huge thank you to our panelists for making the time and effort to present and to our CIBSE YEN committee members Chau Lam and Vanessa Luvio for coordinating this event. We would also like to thank Northrop Consulting Engineers for kindly hosting the event, and to CIBSE ANZ and Seber Recruitment Group for their sponsorship, making this event possible. Let's continue to empower and inspire the next generation of engineers!

Virginia Rea from our Melbourne office had the incredible opportunity to attend a Walk on Country event organised by the Victorian Health Building Authority in conjunction with Barwon Women’s and Children’s Hospital. This enriching experience was hosted by the Traditional custodians of the land, the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation. The Walk was a women’s-only event with 20 women joining to explore traditional Wadawurrung  birthing places and deeply listening to women’s birthing practices and stories about the Wadawurrung traditions, learning how new babies are welcomed into the mob through rituals involving water, possum skin, ochre paint, and smoking ceremonies. We also discovered native plants used in birthing rituals and bush medicine. Although many details are sacred and reserved for women only, this experience is especially significant as LCI is currently working on the Barwon Women’s and Children’s Hospital project. Understanding the cultural heritage and traditions of the Wadawurrung Mob enriches our approach to the project, ensuring that we honour and respect the cultural significance of the land and its history.
