Team Profile: Ray Cox, one of our long-term employees, has been with Landair since we first won the contract to peg out Eastlink prior to construction! After joining as a junior survey assistant in 2005, his first job was walking from Ringwood to Frankston placing pegs every 50 metres.   Over almost 20 years, Ray has occupied most surveying roles within the company, steadily progressing up to his current role as Company Director.   Ray says his initial attraction to work at Landair was the outdoor work involved, with an underlying background of maths and mapping to "stretch his mind".    “Over the years, the main things that have kept me at Landair is the variety of work, ongoing mentoring from the Managing Director, the workplace culture and the opportunity to grow and develop.”   His promotion to company director in 2016 is Ray’s career highlight, along with the ongoing challenges and rewards he’s enjoyed ever since. On a day-to-day level, Ray really enjoys playing his part in growing the Melbourne surveying team.    “Our laser scanning, landfill and drone mapping team leaders all started as juniors and I’ve been able to play an active role in developing their skillsets to increasingly take over my responsibilities. It has been great to see them progress to this level, where I feel really confident in their professional abilities to manage projects and relationships, enabling me to better focus on the business moving forward.”    Ray says the team at Landair is truly unique. “We all bring different skillsets to the table that when combined, allow us to tackle any surveying task with confidence and proven ability. It’s no surprise we have very little employee turnover as a company – we are all about long-term relationships for clients and staff.” #surveyors #team #culture #Victoria

Five years and 2,500 surveying hours delivered by a team of eight… and Landair Surveys’ contribution to the Eastlink resurfacing project is complete!   From the initial road flatness analysis and three summers of resurfacing works, to the recent toll and monitoring point re-instatement, it’s been fantastic to see the project through from start to finish - and receive formal recognition of our team’s great work.   Landair Surveys has had the privilege of working alongside ConnectEast EastLink and Downer for the entire project. Well done everyone! 👏 #surveyors #teamexcellence #Victoria

Landair Surveys partnership with Surveying Task Force is our way of encouraging more people to think about surveying as a great career choice, whether young people as school leavers, or anyone looking for a change.   Surveying is a fantastic career in a small but vital industry that combines outdoor work, exploring and maths. There are still students who don’t even know what surveying is!   Thank you to Surveying Task Force for their ongoing work raising awareness of surveying as a career. Their programs facilitate meaningful connection between students and industry, leading to successful employment and business longevity. #surveying #surveyors #career #team #Victoria

Parks Victoria recently invited Landair Surveys to complete a survey of the State Coal Mine in Wonthaggi, to assist with repair of a rail track. One of the largest coal mines in Australia, the State Coal Mine employed 1,800 people at its peak. Mining began in 1910 and closed in 1968 and during that time, 17,000,000 tons of coal was extracted, with 90% purchased by Victorian railways. Unfortunately, 80 miners lost their lives throughout its operation. Parks Victoria bought the mine to preserve Wonthaggi’s history, for without the mine and discovery of coal in the area, the town of Wonthaggi would not exist. Today, visitors can tour the site to learn what life must have been like for a miner in the first half of the 1900s. The section of track surveyed was 255m, with an average grade of 21%, and our team captured just over 70 scans to build a 3D point cloud. With this data, Parks Victoria will be able to improve and reopen the mine tunnel, so visitors can experience life underground as a coal miner. #surveying #bestpractice #pointcloud #Victoria

One of the most important themes of the Locate24 conference is collaboration. So Landair Surveys is delighted to have just commissioned a new Phase One 280i large format camera system, which offers the highest image capture rate and dynamic range, increasing the quality and accuracy of final photogrammetric products. This new system will bring enormous additional benefits for our clients. Thanks to Michael Griffiths and Mohsen Miri from Phase One for great discussions today. #Locate24 #geospatial #surveyors #surveying
