"My decision to join the Business & Tax Advisory team at KPMG was driven by the exciting growth opportunities which stem from the wider range of services offered beyond the traditional services. Subsequently, this has already enabled me to work with a variety of different clients and organisations. Being a part of a smaller team in Hobart enables me to work closely with and learn from the Partners and Senior Leadership team who themselves, are still continuously learning and offered new opportunities. I am also taking advantage of the great work-life balance here in Hobart. For anyone looking to relocate to a regional area, I would definitely recommend it. From the easy access to nature to the shorter commute times due to less traffic enabling me to spend more time with the family, it really is a great place to live and work! Despite the excellent flexible working policy, the smaller office has formed a close-knit team who enjoy days in the office together, lunching and generally, ensuring each day is rewarding and enjoyable. Being a part of a smaller team in Hobart allows me to collaborate closely with the Partners and Senior Leadership team, providing valuable learning opportunities. The work-life balance here makes it a great choice for those considering a move to a regional area."

"I never thought I had the grades or was at a University KPMG recruited from, until a chance meeting of a KPMG alumni. I shared my story; they were very generous with their time and provided insight into what a career at KPMG looks like and encouraged me to apply. Little did I know at the time, this conversation would lead to a 17-year career. I knew I always wanted to work overseas and whilst working in Melbourne Enterprise Audit on a UK subsidiary I contacted the UK partner to flag my interest if an opportunity was to arise, and once I finished my CA I secured a two year secondment to London. It was a fantastic opportunity to broaden my horizons across global markets and strengthen my professional acumen and personally develop whilst having fun travelling Europe. An attitude of connecting with as many people as possible, telling my story and stepping out of my comfort zone to pursue opportunities has been fundamental to my career. Progression, leading teams and developing others has always been incredibly important to me, I jumped on the next opportunity to develop on my existing skills and put my hand up for an opportunity to relocate to Toronto. Whilst in the depths of Toronto winter an opportunity with a pathway to Partner came up to lead our Darwin Audit business, and I’ve been living here since 2022. Some of the advantages of working in regional office include pace of life, which can be slower at times but from a work sense you also get so much exposure and opportunities to progress quicker and take ownership of a business. From a lifestyle perspective there is no better place than Darwin in the middle of the year (dry season), from the beautiful weather, hive of events and festivals and the 10-minute travel time to anywhere in the city provides more opportunity to balance work, time with family and other interests. There is a real demand for people in regional areas, and there is so much opportunity for your family. The active outside lifestyle is great, and from when I first moved here, the welcoming friendly nature made getting settled all that much easier. For anyone considering a regional move, I’d say go for it and experience what a regional opportunity offers – you’ll only discover great things and never know what it may lead to!" "In early 1997, my parents were relishing having a six-year-old starting school, with another child (me!) on the way. But an unexpected complication necessitated an emergency caesarean well before my expected due date. Concerns grew over my developmental reliance on my left side and my comparatively immobile right arm and leg, eventually culminating in a diagnosis of hemiplegia - thus beginning my long journey at the Royal Children's Hospital. My formative years revolved around early interventions, medical hardware, and a unspoken resolve to never hold me back from anything. I was not always the most enthusiastic patient, especially when it came to wearing prosthetics to school, mostly because I just wanted to be like everyone else. With that came a desire to play in all the same school and club sporting competitions, but by 16 the added strength, speed and size of others made it difficult, especially in contact sports. In 2006, we moved to Switzerland which led to my first snow experience, through an adaptive Snowsports non-profit. Upon return, the ski bug continue to grow, and I competed in underage pathways, joining the Australian Para-Alpine ski team in 2014. I completed university and competed at continental and world cup races, achieving fourth place in the male standing category and earning selection for two winter Paralympics in 2018 and 2022 - moments I am incredibly proud of. However, a week before Beijing 2022, a training accident left me with a shattered collarbone and a nasty concussion, forcing me to shift my focus. This year I joined the 2024 KPMG graduate program, and the welcoming and inclusive environment continues to surprise and impress. Effort is made to ensure I am not disadvantaged by my slower handwriting speed, and my colleagues have always been very complimentary of my five-finger typist technique."
