  • MELBOURNE: Kane Constructions is proud to announce that our Queenscliff Searoad Ferries Terminal Building project has been nominated for the 2024 Master Builders Victoria Excellence in Construction Award in the Commercial Buildings category $15M-$20M. The project involved the demolition of the old terminal and the construction of a new, architecturally designed building spread across two floors. The new terminal features a striking stainless-steel façade, encompassing a ticketing and retail area, toilets, kitchens, a café, bar, and a spacious passenger lounge. One of the terminal's standout architectural features is its curved roof, providing cover for passengers as they embark and disembark, enhancing both functionality and aesthetic appeal. The intricate roof structure features 20-meter-long cantilevers and custom-rolled 415 grade standing seam stainless steel sheets to match the building’s unique curves and rakes. The terminal also incorporates essential operational design elements, including the ability to separate passengers, monitor passenger flow, and provide security screening, all of which contribute to its operational flexibility. The adaptable design enables the building to function as a passenger terminal, restaurant, and event venue. Throughout the project, Kane ensured the seamless operation of Australia’s busiest vehicle ferry service, underscoring our capability to manage complex projects in challenging environments. The new Queenscliff Ferry Terminal not only enhances transportation infrastructure but also serves as an architectural icon, harmonising with the coastal landscape while making a bold, modern statement. We acknowledge and thank everyone involved in bringing this project to life. Congratulations to all that have been nominated, our team look forward to seeing the results at this year's Master Builders Victorian Awards held in August. MELBOURNE: Kane Constructions is delighted to announce that Darcy Gumley, Project Manager for the Northern Private Hospital, has been honoured with the Professional Excellence Award in the $60 million category at the annual Australian Institute of Building (AIB) Victorian Chapter awards.   Kane’s involvement with this project began in 2018 when we were engaged under an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contract to develop the project brief and schematic design. The main works contract was secured in 2021, and construction commenced in December of that year. Remarkably, the project was completed two months ahead of schedule in August 2023.   Under Darcy's leadership, the project saw the design and construction of a state-of-the-art medical facility. The development includes 70 inpatient unit bedrooms, four operating theatres, a cardiac catheterisation lab, central sterile supply department (CSSD), a day chemotherapy unit, sleep studies unit, an on-site pharmacy, and consulting suites. The facility also boasts a commercial kitchen, café, and a link bridge connecting it to the adjacent Northern Hospital.   One of the significant challenges faced was constructing this project on a former landfill site, which required innovative solutions to manage significant latent ground conditions including landfill waste, landfill gasses and asbestos. The construction works also involved the installation of 20m long precast driven piles which were used to penetrate the landfill waste, down to the basalt foundation layer below. Darcy and his team addressed these challenges efficiently, ensuring the project remained on time and within budget.   A noteworthy achievement under Darcy's management was the seamless integration of structure and services between the new private hospital and the existing public Northern Hospital with the construction of a link bridge. These works required meticulous planning and execution to ensure uninterrupted hospital operations in extremely close proximity to two live hospital departments and adherence to strict health, safety and infection control protocols.   In addition to Darcy's accolade, we extend our congratulations to the following Project Managers who received High Commendation at the 2024 Professional Excellence Awards:   • Steve Wilson for the Iglu Melbourne Central project ($60 million ) • Jack Fowler for the Bendigo Law Courts project ($60 million)   Read more: https://lnkd.in/g7yc2yuh   Australian Institute of Building   #kaneconstructions #construction #building #AIBAwards #teamwork #leadership #awardwinning #awards

Commissioned by the Naomi Milgrom Foundation, MPavilion 2023 is the first Australian building designed by renowned architect Tadao Ando. Crafted with off-form concrete, the pavilion offers a serene and contemplative space. The project involved constructing 83 meters of high-quality class 2 off-form concrete walls and two 17-meter off-form concrete beams. Additionally, a circular off-form concrete storeroom was built, accompanied by a 136m² bluestone reflective pond featuring an infinity edge and a chemical-free water reticulation and filtration system. The construction also included a 14-meter diameter cantilever steel roof and a 1200m² landscaping package designed to seamlessly blend the pavilion with its surroundings. This distinctive and challenging project has made a significant mark on the arts and architectural community both locally and internationally. With a steadfast dedication to quality, occupational health and safety, and environmental sustainability, the Kane team ensured the project was a resounding success, delivered to the highest standards and ten days ahead of program. MELBOURNE: Kane Constructions is thrilled to announce that our Iglu Russell Street project, now known as Melbourne Central, has been nominated for the 2024 Master Builders Victoria Excellence in Construction Award in the Commercial Buildings category $30M-$80M. This ambitious project involved erecting a 28-storey tower on a compact 467 square meter site in the heart of Melbourne's CBD. Standing tall at 86 meters, the building boasts a stunning Glass Curtain wall facade with GRC and lightweight brick piers. This student accommodation building is a vibrant hub for students to live, learn and collaborate. The construction of this building presented unique challenges, including demolishing the basement of an existing 4-storey building and navigating adjacent heritage properties, requiring innovative solutions and meticulous planning throughout. The building's structure features a combination of concrete core, precast elements, and post-tension slabs, while the facade incorporates state-of-the-art materials like lightweight bricks and GRC panels. This façade makeup was unique while prefabricated brick-and-rail systems had been employed in lower-level podiums, their use as a curtain wall system on a 28-storey CBD tower was unprecedented in Melbourne. Throughout the project, we maintained a steadfast commitment to quality, safety, and collaboration, working closely with architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure every aspect of the build exceeded expectations. This dedication was recognised in 2023 when the project won the Master Builders Australia, Federal Safety Commissioner’s National Excellence in Workplace Health and Safety Award. We acknowledge and thank everyone involved in bringing this project to life. Congratulations to all that have been nominated, our team look forward to seeing the results at this year's Master Builders Victorian Awards held in August. We encourage young people to consider careers in project management, design, engineering, contract administration, and site management. Students gain hands-on experience and valuable insight into the diversity of roles across construction projects. This week, we were excited to have Isabelle Christan from Strathcona Girls Grammar on-site! She explored various areas of our business, spending time with Project Manager Diana May and the wider construction team on one of our live community projects. We hope Isabelle enjoyed her time with us and considers a future in construction. If you are a school looking to participate in our program please don’t hesitate to email [email protected]. #kaneconstructions #construction #building #womeninconstruction #considerconstruction
