100% 🙌
The recent community engagement review by the AEIC found that repeated instances of poor community engagement had led to a “material distrust” of renewable energy project developers. How can we improve this? One of our solutions: Local Energy Hubs. These Hubs would be drop-in centres in regional communities set up to demystify the energy transition, bolster local engagement, and independently facilitate communication between energy developers and the community. Read more about our proposal in the RenewEconomy article below.

This article speaks to the heart of community engagement issues in rural Victoria - “In rural places, we pride ourselves on self-sufficiency and inventiveness…. I don’t just want cheap or free power, I want to be a self-sufficient power producer in my own right”

One of the biggest threats to the transition to renewables in Australia is poor community engagement and benefits sharing..
I was pleased to be interviewed by ABC on Friday about the federal government's review into how renewable energy developers engage with landowners and communities. I warned that there is a Trumpian anti-renewables lobby at work in Australia, spreading disinformation and fear. Governments and the renewables sector should do more to debunk the disinformation or the bad faith actors will win, which will push up electricity prices and mean we can't quit fossil fuels. Lower income households and renters are being left behind or worse, left bearing the costs. St Vinnies have noticed this, it came up on several panels at the All-Energy Conference this year but there are currently few solutions to address it.
