New Zealanders want a greater focus on reducing the impacts of climate change, according to new research released by AMI Insurance, State Insurance New Zealand and NZI.   In its 7th annual Climate Change Poll, 65% of New Zealanders say they want to see more focus and resource put into reducing the impacts of climate-related hazards. When asked what the country should do more of; 82% say making buildings and infrastructure more resilient, 80% say avoiding or reducing development in high-risk locations, and 75% say protecting existing buildings and infrastructure.    IAG NZ CEO Amanda Whiting said: “This reflects the need for practical steps which will lead to a real reduction in the natural hazard risk faced by some of New Zealand’s most exposed communities, so that we can keep them safe as the impacts of climate change grow. New Zealand will continue to experience floods, storms, earthquakes, and other disasters, so we need a strong insurance industry to help people pick up the pieces and support a faster and more certain recovery.”   Recognising this, 85% of New Zealanders agree that strong insurers are needed given the country’s level of natural hazard risk.   For more information visit: https://lnkd.in/gs8UteBk

We are delighted to have forged a partnership with Diversity Council Australia Ltd (DCA), and to be the major sponsor of DCA’s 2024 Diversity Debate - Is polarisation holding diversity and inclusion back? For over a decade, DCA’s Diversity Debates have challenged thinking and demonstrated the importance of having courageous and respectful conversations. This year’s debate examines whether division is impeding progress towards genuine equality, or instead, igniting a sense of urgency and drive for change. IAG Executive General Manager Organisational Development & Leadership, Gillian Folkes said: “This is a wonderful partnership which directly aligns with our purpose, and complements our commitment to building a diverse, equitable and inclusive organisation. We look forward to further advancing our knowledge through this partnership, as we continue to create a supportive and enriching environment for our people.” The debate will take place on Tuesday October 22nd, for more information please visit: https://ow.ly/K0QC50SLTlr

IAG's purpose ‘to make your world a safer place’ and commitment to the core value of social responsibility, aligns strongly with our vision of creating a just and equitable Australian society where people in all their diversity can thrive. “DCA is grateful for IAG’s sponsorship of the 2024 Diversity Debate and we’re very excited to have IAG on board as our Major Partner," said DCA CEO Lisa Annese when thanking IAG for their support. “Through this important support, IAG is showing proactive commitment to diversity and inclusion, and we hope it inspires organisations across Australia to keep prioritising D&I efforts.” We're also pleased to announce that Suncorp Group is the primary Supporting Sponsor and Telstra will serve as the Associate Sponsor of the 2024 Diversity Debate. We deeply appreciate their generous support and commitment to diversity and inclusion. This year our Debate will ask the question: “Is polarisation holding diversity and inclusion back?”. Together with our valued sponsors, we look forward to hosting an exceptional event on the evening of 22 October this year in Sydney, with tickets available for sale in early September. Our New Zealand brand AMI Insurance is urging winter fire safety, as new claims data revealed a nearly 40% increase in house fires between summer and winter last year.   According to the claims data, the most common causes of house fires are due to cooking, indoor fires (chimney/roof fire or embers re-igniting), electrical malfunctions or overloads, heating sources, and candles. The average cost of a house fire claim increased to nearly $150,000 last year and nearly one in five of these claims resulted in the home being uninhabitable.   AMI Executive General Manager Claims Wayne Tippet has warned: “Winter brings a unique set of fire dangers that New Zealanders need to be cautious of. It’s so important to keep fire safety in mind, especially when cooking and heating your home.”   Read the full story on the IAG New Zealand newsroom - https://lnkd.in/gbANjKtY.
