We had an incredible time at TEFMA24 in Auckland, where Director Jessika Hames shared insights on the tremendous capacity for positive change inherent to ageing university buildings. The TL Robertson Library refurbishment project for Curtin University demonstrates how existing infrastructure can be reimagined to: 🎓 meaningfully improve the student experience 🌱 reduce embodied carbon and support pathways to Net Zero for 2050 ✨ improve equity, inclusion and wellbeing for all 🤝 foster connections to nature, to Country, and to community Huge thanks to Curtin University’s Brodie McKean for co-presenting with us, and to TEFMA for the opportunity to be part of this important conversation at a stellar conference! From Revit files to textiles, Ilma Ali sees design as a creative outlet and a tool for social change. A multi-disciplinary designer from our Darwin Studio, Ilma’s creativity isn’t limited to the built environment. Inspired by the natural beauty of the Northern Territory, her artworks have appeared in galleries and fashion shows that support not-for-profit organisations and initiatives. “As designers we have the power to make a change, which is a big responsibility that I love and appreciate. We get to be creative, but be creative for a purpose,” she says. An exceptional interior designer with a focus on inclusive and sensory design, Principal Kate Hogan Gillies joins Hames Sharley's Sydney Studio. Kate's new appointment with Hames Sharley aligns with her personal values and design ethos – she believes in design for all, not just some, and a people-first approach where listening, curiosity and empathy inform everything. “I believe that spaces are the most satisfying when they feel authentic and there are moments of delight. I derive enormous satisfaction from seeing people love a space, feel connected to it and see themselves reflected in it,” she says. Welcome to the team Kate! 👏👏 Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gZWkEee9 #interiordesign #workplacedesign #inclusivedesign #sensorydesign #sydney #newsouthwales #enablingcommunitiestoflourish
