What’s not to love about shopping locally? 😍 The idea with “locally made” is that what you’re buying comes from your surroundings, that there is lower-impact and greater ethics that go into what you’re buying 🏘️ But in fashion, that’s not always the case as most of the fibres and materials to make a garment aren’t grown, processed, sewn, and sold in the same place 😵💫 Most clothing reflects complicated supply chains that lack transparency, traceability, and the nuance needed to understand “how it was made”. Thus, tags that say where something is made often can mislead shoppers into believing something “is local” 👀 Swipe to understand what “locally made” means ➡️ And, if you work with a brand or business who is hoping to improve how it works, learn how Good On You can help create solutions here → https://lnkd.in/e34mk3kF

Is it possible to decarbonise production processes in fashion, to shift toward renewable energy? Lutz Walter muses on the subject, while considering textile waste and government involvement. Share what you think in the comments ⬇️
🌍 Decarbonizing Textile Production: An Ambitious but Realistic Path Forward 🧵Decarbonisation isn’t the only sustainability challenge of the textile and fashion industry, but certainly a high priority one. At about 2% of global GHG emissions the sector isn’t a heavy hitter, but getting rid of up to 90% of these emissions would still make a nice contribution towards containing global warming. I use Apparel Impact Institute's recently published total figures and emission breakdown across the different tiers of the supply chain as a starting point, but I take issue with their 2030 forecast which I view as way too pessimistic. 📈 Learn what are the 10 priority actions the industry needs to take to reduce emissions by up to 80% even if production doubles over the next 20-25 years. 🔧 Understand the concept of Exergy, the measure of how efficiently a system transforms energy into work, and why it is important especially for decarbonisation of wet processes. 💪 Appreciate how much is in the industry’s own hands and to what extent it relies on the overall economic and regulatory system. Key points include: ♻ Resource Efficiency & Waste Avoidance 🔋 Electrification & Renewable Energy 🔥 Chemical Processes 🚜 Agricultural Decarbonisation ⚖ Regulatory Action 🛣 The journey towards a decarbonised textile & fashion industry is challenging but achievable. By implementing the outlined strategies, we can significantly reduce emissions while maintaining modern consumption levels. ❓ What do you think about my reflections? Am I too optimistic? What am I missing? Let's discuss 🤓 The article is long because the subject is complex and nuanced. For readers that are short on time I included a ChatGPT-generated TLDR. Scroll to the end of the article for it. #Sustainability #TextileIndustry #Decarbonization #RenewableEnergy #Exergy #EcoEfficiency #ClimateAction

In July 2021, we welcomed Angelique Matthews (she/her) to the team. Three years later, Angelique is an instrumental part of our People and Culture team 💚 Our People and Culture Manager, Angelique has witnessed Good On You bloom. “Being a part of growing our team to twice its size from when I first started and all the amazing humans we have on our team is something I am really proud of,” she says. “I am constantly in awe with the level of awareness and access to information about sustainability in fashion that has now become mainstream,” Angelique adds, reflecting on how the sustainability space has changed since 2021. “My first job in the fashion industry, sustainability meant sourcing a few ‘sustainable’ fabrics and calling it a day. Fashion brands are being held more accountable and publishing more sustainability reports because people are demanding transparency.” “But don’t get it twisted: there is still a lot work to be done to ensure brands are being honest about their practices,” Angelique says. “Good On You continues to evolve with the changing regulations and innovations in the fashion space and shares this information with our audience to keep them informed and inspired to take action.” Angelique is excited to continue helping Good On You move the fashion industry—And larger consumer landscape!—forward toward more sustainable practices, by helping to scale our team and “champion people power in new industries”. Hear, hear! Please join us in thanking and congratulating Angelique for all her hard work, and swipe for photos of her out and about in Victoria, Australia 🎉
