Last week, we gathered to celebrate all things Nightingale Marrickville. Now that residents have settled in and it has transformed from a 'project' into a 'home', it was the perfect moment to raise a toast. The evening featured a beautiful Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by Brendan Kerin from the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council, accompanied by tunes from a resident DJ, and a delightful array of homemade snacks. "Nightingale. Welcome to Sydney!" Today marked a significant milestone as NSW Minister for Housing, Rose Jackson, joined us to officially open Nightingale Marrickville, marking the completion of Nightingale's inaugural project for NSW as well as Fresh Hope Communities’ first affordable housing project. Joined by NSW Minister for Planning, Paul Scully, Deputy Mayor of the Inner West Council, Chloe Smith, and leaders from Fresh Hope Communities and Nightingale Housing, Minister Jackson planted a ceremonial Banksia on the shared garden terrace, signaling to Government's desire to see more projects like Nightingale Marrickville realised more often. The group had the pleasure of meeting Stevie, one of the residents, chatting about what their new home means to them and taking a look around. Designed by the team at SJB, Nightingale Marrickville comprises 54 small-footprint homes and generous shared spaces. With rent capped at 80% of the market rate, residents can enjoy secure housing while providing some relief to financial stress. We extend our sincere gratitude to Fresh Hope Communities, churches of Christ in NSW & ACT, whose vision and dedication have brought this project to fruition. It was a bold project to take on, and Nightingale is so happy to be part of it.
