Our Mission: deliver the most food to the most Australians in need in the most efficient and effective way.

About us

Foodbank is a food relief organisation that partners with the entire Australian food and grocery sector to supply front-line charities nationally with the stocks they need to address hunger in the community. This involves working with farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers to source fresh and manufactured foods as well as personal and household items for those in need. Donations include stock that doesn’t meet industry specifications, is close to expiry or excess to requirements. Companies also make donations as part of their corporate social responsibility commitments and cause-related marketing campaigns. Foodbank supplies food and groceries to more than 2,950 charities and also provides regular breakfasts for students in 2,890 schools across the country. As a not-for-profit organisation, Foodbank relies on governments, individuals, organisations, community groups and thousands of volunteers to fight hunger.

Australians of all ages and income brackets are being forced to cut back on basic needs like food, electricity, and transport due to the words we don't want to hear anymore—yet we can't escape its impact on our daily lives: the cost of living crisis. Recent findings from The Australian reveal what people are cutting back on to stay afloat. For example, more than half of all households are reducing their food spending, and a quarter skipped doctor visits. Even households earning over $200,000 a year are feeling the pinch, with almost a quarter having delayed seeing a doctor, and half having reduced their grocery spending in the past year. If you're struggling to put food on your table, please know you're not alone, and help is available. When the laundry basket fills up with dirty clothes, many of us don’t think twice about doing a load of washing. However, for many households, buying laundry products is a luxury that must be sacrificed to afford food and pay the bills. We all know the fresh feeling and smell of clean clothes and sheets which help boost moods and possibly build confidence to take on the day. A heartfelt thank you to our generous donors Unilever, PZ Cussons and Henkel for donating laundry products, ensuring that everyone, no matter their situation, can have clean, fresh laundry. #EverydayEssentials #CleanLaundry #WeekofCare #Dignity #Foodbank *Name and photo changed for privacy.

When budgets are tight, self-care products often get cut from the shopping list. Moisturisers, cleansers, and other products are not luxuries—they are essential for many men, women, teenagers, and children facing tough times. Everyone deserves healthy skin. It impacts confidence and can significantly affect those already struggling to pay the bills. That's why we partner with companies to ensure a regular supply of products for our charities to offer their communities. A huge thank you to Beiersdorf, L'Oréal, Procter & Gamble and Kenvue for donating these vital products that provide strength in the face of adversity for those doing it tough. #WeekofCare #Dignity #Foodbank #SelfCareMatters #HealthySkinForAll #ConfidenceBoost #EssentialItems *Name and photo changed for privacy.

Imagine the worry of not knowing if you can find toilet paper. For many of us, it was a brief experience during the panic buying of the pandemic. But for people struggling right now, this can be a daily stress: "Can I afford toilet paper this week?" A big thank you to Sorbent Paper Company Pty Ltd, Kimberly-Clark and Amazon whose donations of toilet paper are distributed across the country by our charity partners, reaching the homes of everyday people struggling to make ends meet. #WeekofCare #Dignity #Foodbank #ToiletPaper #EssentialItem #DailyStress #Affordability *Name and photo changed for privacy

We can all agree how good it feels to have freshly washed hair. Yet for too many Aussies like Mat*, everyday essentials such as shampoo and conditioner are out of reach. While many of us may often overlook these products, they are essential for more than just cleanliness—it’s a crucial part of self-care that helps maintain confidence, dignity and a sense of normalcy during tough times, especially if there are children in the household. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our generous donors L'Oréal, and Procter & Gamble for donating these important hair care products. While cleaning the house or washing dishes may seem like mundane tasks, they are the building blocks of a happy home. They are the first lessons we teach our children, often accompanied by memories of soap suds fights with siblings or lively post-dinner chats. Clean spaces not only promote physical wellbeing but also contribute to our mental and emotional health, making them more than just chores. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our largest national donor of household cleaning products, Reckitt, and to Kimberly-Clark, Sorbent Paper Company Pty Ltd and Amazon who have all generously donated everything from dishwashing liquid to disinfectants, surface cleaners, wipes, and sponges. #WeekofCare #Foodbank #CleaningMatters #HealthyLiving #Dignity *Name and photo changed for privacy.

You may not expect us to provide makeup to our charities. However, makeup is a tool that helps us present our best selves but can feel like an unattainable luxury for many in the communities we support. Having access to makeup is not just about appearances; it's about self-care, empowerment, and maintaining a sense of normalcy. Additionally, makeup can play a crucial role for women, whether in concealing bruises or scars from violence or simply wanting to feel confident at work. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to L'Oréal, our most generous makeup donor, for ensuring that everyone has access to the uplifting power of makeup. Their support, especially around Mother's Day, enriches our efforts to include their products in our Mother's Day hampers. #WeekofCare #Foodbank #MakeupMatters #SelfCare #ThankYou #Dignity *Name and photo changed for privacy.

We found that 29% of food-insecure households need more period products from charities and community groups. We hear stories of people rationing their products or using socks or toilet paper to manage their period. For some, that idea seems unimaginable, yet it's a harsh reality with severe and hidden consequences that many people across the country face. Period care is more than just a necessity—it's vital to maintaining dignity and well-being. No one should have to compromise their health or feel ashamed because of financial constraints. We want to alleviate some of the emotional strain by ensuring easy access to period products is widespread as we believe it is crucial to living a healthy, active, confident life. Thank you, Kimberly-Clark, for donating period products like tampons, pads, and reusable period undies. #WeekofCare #Foodbank #PeriodCare #HealthyLiving #Dignity *name and photo changed for privacy.
