If people don’t see the purpose of their role, they’ll never be fully engaged. I think most organisations and leaders know this, yet very few actually go the extra mile here to support their people. It’s not a new problem either. Since the dawn of factory work, this challenge has existed and employees have struggled to make a direct connection between their efforts and the organisation’s success. Can you draw a line between what you do on a day-to-day basis and how your efforts contribute to the success of your organisation? Probably not - or if you can, it’ll take a bit of thinking time. Many companies have invested in a recognition platform in an attempt to fill this gap, hoping that by sending praise, rewards and acknowledgements that people will see how their efforts are making a difference. Though, out of the box solutions can rarely communicate or reinforce how daily tasks contribute to bottom-line business results. Actually, if you want to help your people see the purpose of their roles, there are a few relatively simple things you can do to kick this off: 1️⃣ Start by sharing the bigger picture with your team. 2️⃣ Show them how their work contributes to the company's mission and goals. 3️⃣ Celebrate their achievements and connect their daily tasks to the organisation's overall success. The good news is that when employees see the significance of their work, they’re often more engaged, satisfied, and motivated. And, of course - this helps to drive engagement but also business results. We’ve seen this first hand - and have helped many organisations realise this.
